Fifth Gear v

Post by garyw »

Maybe it is me, but for the first time in a long time I found this weeks episode of 5th gear better than Top gear..

I enjoyed Top Gear and the end result was that two caravans were destroyed (never a bad thing  There were funny sections in the caravan section, but felt it got a bit too much like brainiacs, which Hamster presents.
Too many "carry on" clichés for one article..

Whilst Fifth gear was of special interest to me this week, I thought it was almost informative, more so than TG.. The tyre situation etc, Yes you could pull the test to pieces as in braking distances, too close together, different cars etc, but it did make a valid point and was almost like a motoring journalistic program...

Incase you missed the important bits... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6Pq_mm9BHI

How difficult is that?

Anyway, you're just biased because of the rave review of the 911 Turbo. :P

do you actually like driving at all or are cars to you just a manifestation of some sort of pathological mother complex ?

Have to agree, after waiting an eternity during the World Cup, that episode of TG was "whank" as Pete from BB would say

Is Gary getting a new car? Old one not fast enough matey?

Quite agree. Normally TG is quite funny and has a chat show side to it which is quite fun. 5G has Vicki Pain-in-the-Butt-ler-Henderson who annoys me profusely.

TG's caravan thing was just plain daft, and it was painfully obvious that the bit with the two caravans on fire was filmed in a empty field and not on the caravan park. I hope normal service will be resumed next week.

The naff presentation of the results didn't make the differences obvious enough, and the stunt with the car being rear-ended was just daft. Whatever happens, the car behind will always catch the one in front because it brakes later. This is why we are taught to leave a 2 second gap IN THE DRY and more in the wet.

I do agree that tyres should be illegal at under 3mm. The rears on my Z got down to about 3.5mm before I changed them. The worked well enough in the dry, but made the car very tail happy in the wet. So much so that I wasn't comfortable driving it. Even pulling away quite gently it was trying to spin the wheels. It's so much more sure footed with new rubber on.

Yeah all, whats happening to T/G. We are still getting repeats of the old series out here in Kiwiland, (Jaguar,Chrysler, HSV on the sands etc). I have heard rumours that JC had some sort of accident. Has that delayed the series?. Its the only program worth watching on NZ TV.
If anybody has any info I would like to hear.

We can only hope!

Quite some time ago Jezza hurt his back and couldn't do road/track tests. He seems to be fit and well now... unfortunately for us!

I think it was just the world cup that has put the show back 4 weeks, though i don't think it will be on much longer, i think it finishes mid august. and i agree this weeks episode was a little lame.
