BOND, ROMANS and PILGRIMS
TonyCal and I ran the route on Sunday and it's a really great mix of roads and scenary. We're meeting at Maidstone services (J8 M20) at 0945 for 1000 with an option for northern participants to meet earlier at South Mimms (A1/M25) around 0830 for 0845. Southerns can meet at Hickstead Shell/Travelodge also around 0830 for 0845.
The route is a combination of James Bond/Ian Fleming 'places' with lots of roman roads and roman conotations, coupled with criss-crossing of the ancient Pilgrim's Way. Running speed will generally be a lot slower than the Lakes, though there are a couple of opportunities...
We start the run crossing the Pilgrim's Way in the lanes and hills of the North Weald [1-8], then join one of the classic Bond runs [9-11] from Moonraker. After coffee [12] we loop south crossing the Pilgrim's Way again, stopping for panoramic photos at [16]. We then head north on 'Stone Street' [16-17] and stop for lunch at 'The Duck' [18] featured in Bond's obituary in 'You only live Twice'.
After a fast run down the A2 on the northern edge of the Weald [18-19] we pass St Margaret's when Ian Fleming lived, then briefly stop for a post-lunch break [21]. Heading north on the A256 we then make for the lanes again with a stretch through apple orchards and running alongside the marshes [22-24]. We then stop for a while at the seaside Roman fort at Reculver [25].
The run officially finishes at Reculver, but there's the option to join together for a run back towards London on the swooping A299, then a short stop at Hernhill [26] before continuing up the M2. The map shows the finish as Medway Services on the M2 [27] but it's likely people will pass this by on their way home.
How to join in
Please email me at tim.cullis@zroadster.net if you are interested in attending with details of

- name of driver and passenger (e.g. Tim and Irene Cullis)
- model, colour and reg number (e.g. M roadster 3.2, Laguna Seca Blue, A4 TRC)
- mobile phone number (e.g. 07976 683999)
I will then add you to the list below of confirmed participants further down this thread. I need to confirm lunch numbers in advance (vegie options available), so please don't just turn up on the day, or cancel without reasonable warning.

The Zed, Diane and myself are looking forward to our first Z run so we'd love to join in. South Mimms is really close for us, so we'll be there at 8.30 on Sunday morning.... ..... I wasn't aware that time actually existed on a Sunday! We're at a party the night before too, so might still be a little puffy-eyed at that time of night!
Just out of interest, Tony and Tim having done the run, do you have any idea of distance / duration / estimated finish time?
Regards
Alfie.

Hey Shirley.
"Fnaar Fnaar" is one of many 'stifled laughing' type sounds made by Finbar Saunders (and his double entendres) from Viz comic.
Basically, his mother and her boyfriend, Mr Gimlet, would suggest something innocently, that would actually sound very rude. Finbar would fall over with laughter and his caption would say "Fnaar Fnaar" or "Wibble wibble" etc.
So I hope I have answered your question, or.... is your head still throbbing???
Fnaar Fnaar.....!
Regards
Alfie.

Great day Tony+Tim.
Thanks for everything + special thanks to you Tony for allowing Sean to accompany you, he won't forget today for a while. Unfortunately Angie won't give up her seat , so he won't be coming again too soon (and besides, a day off from the children is usually quite welcome ).
Hope to see some of you again soon on the Sussex cruise; have to try and organise my working hours around it, and hopefully by then the coupe will have a shiny new nose too.

Bond, Romans and Pilgrims
This was going to be a cruise over the roads driven in Ian Fleming's Bond books, but it got diverted somewhat down the country lanes along the Pilgrims Way and along Roman roads, including the eight-mile straight of Stone Street.<i>
<img src="http://www.zroadster.net/tim/drives/bon ... castle.jpg">
Our first stop was in 'The Square' at Chilham...
<img src="http://www.zroadster.net/tim/drives/bon ... ham-z1.jpg">
... where Spokey's Z1 attracts attention. Is it a bird? Is it a plane?
<img src="http://www.zroadster.net/tim/drives/bon ... g-stop.jpg">
Stopped at Farthing Common at the bottom of Stone Street...
<img src="http://www.zroadster.net/tim/drives/bon ... g-view.jpg">
...to admire the view? Or chat about cars?
</i>We stopped for lunch at Ian Fleming's favourite pub, 'The Duck' at Petts Bottom. On the wall outside is a blue plaque confirming it as the location where Fleming wrote "You only live twice."<i>

We finished at the seaside at the Roman fort of Reculver with many red faces (due to the sun).
Thanks to TonyCal for helping dry run the route and leading on the day.

Hey Guys.
Just wanted to add our thanks to Tim and Tony for organising such a fantabulous day out. The planning was excellent, the company was great and the weather just topped it all off.
Although I reminded everybody to bring their suncream, I was the one that forgot..... and as a result, my 'Panda eyes' have been the subject of much 'joviality' (read p!55taking) in the office this morning! I think I'll treat myself to a cap next time.
It was great to put faces to names and meet so many Zed fans. And the sight of 19 beautiful machines in a row was just awesome!
Cheers!
Alfie and Diane.

No problem Tim see you in a couple of weeks so we can get the next one ready.
From the front it was quite a sight down the A2, looking in my mirrors all I could see were Z's everywhere. Filling both carriageways and trying hard not to overtake me The 10 miles we did down the A2 did not take long at all. Still cant work out how the rear of the group got to Reculver first.

Talk about radios
Tim informed me on sunday that one of his talkabouts was not returned after the Kent cruise.
PLEASE PLEASE ensure, if you borrow one, it gets returned to the owner at the end of the cruise for recharging etc.
