The Motley Cruise -- Resuscitated! 20 June 2009

Post by spokey »

Inspired by Gary's burgeoning collection of Americana, I thought I'd propose a cruise with a difference: you're not allowed to come along in a Z (unless it's the only car you own!)

So, you would need to bring your daily driver or your other special plaything.

In recognition of the fact that this is going to feature some cars that have potentially less than scintillating handling, the route and the pace will be less challenging than normal. The idea for this one is possibly a bit less driving and a bit more natter and I will also try to find somewhere nice to take a photo or two of our motley crew!

The dates can be tweaked, if it's essential. Garythe fish HAS to be there, though. I think he can bring one, and Sandra the other.

Who is in? :D

UPDATE: if Gary et al, are OK with it, I'd like to propose the following:

Meet up at the OK Diner at Cromwell. (Note: This is NOT the normal OK Diner, it's considerably further north on the A1, just a few miles north of Newark!)

Do a little gentle A-road cruising into Sutton-on-Sea, park up and have fish and chips from a local chippy. Then cruise along various A-roads down the coast to Skeggy and Boston, stopping off at a couple of pubs along the way. Final pub will be in Boston. There are also a number of fuel stops planned.

We'll then bimble along to the junction of the A15 and the A17, where the "ee bai gummers" will say their farewells and the southern softies will amble down to a convenient point on the A1, grab some petrol ( ) and we'll all trundle off home.

Confirmed:
Spokey - 130i
Lynne - Z4 (it's her daily driver)
Whiteminks - 2x4 (or something)
Garythefish + 1 - 330i
Rob T - No Froggie :(

Interested:

I like the idea, Spokey. I'd bring mine, but it would have to up north, as speed and distance is not something it does well - you can have one or the other, but not both.

Hoping for better weather. :D

The date isn't cast in stone, if you want to make it sooner, we can! Since we already have a cruise in February (and the weather isn't looking too promising) we could aim for 21 or 28 March... ?

What says everyone? :?

I'm happy with any date. I don't really have to worry about things like work now I'm a student.

BTW, I will be in my mystery car (which is not a 330!)

This sounds feasible, (nearly) our neck of the woods to meet up, a trip round our local area and Leons in GY is a great fish restaurant by the way. I feel that Pete's Clubsport could do with some actual work, so put us down as a poss please. :)

I'd love to bring her but I'd have to set of the day before to get there in time.

It took us 5 1/2 hours to drive her home when we bought her and that was only from York, a trip that would normally only take an hour and forty at the most!

I don't have a problem in principle, but I always worry about safety of motorcyclists, and given the wide variety of tin on the cruise, I would be doubly worried that you might wind up getting stuck between something with very good brakes in front of you and something with very bad brakes beind you. :(

Better to turn up in the Zed if you have no other choice.

PS. Please add me as confirmed - 330ci

It looks like Claire is going to have to work that weekend now, so we are now doubtful for the 25th. I should know for sure a little closer to the date and I'll confrm either way then.

We're pretty dissapointed as we picked the Mito up on Saturday and were looking forward to taking it for a run.
