Northern BMW Festival at Tatton Park - 6th September 2009

Post by Robert T »

Northern BMW Festival at Tatton Park
Knutsford, Cheshire - 6th September 2009
tattonpark.org.uk wrote:Now in its 10th year, Tatton Park once again plays host to the largest gathering of BMW's in the North of England. With a Concourse competition, a huge Show & Shine competition, BMW race cars on display, Register displays from the likes of M Power, ZED and Alpina, plus the new MINI Register, cars for sale, specialist trade stands, autojumble etc, there really is something for everyone interested in the BMW marque, and ALL BMW owners are welcome to join the fun. With a children's fairground to keep the young one's happy and all the attractions that Tatton Park has to offer, the show really makes for a fun day out for all the family.

10am - 4pm, Adult £2.00, Children under 16yrs free. Normal Park Entry charge applies.
More info on Tatton Park and BMWCC. Some pics from previous years here: 2008, 2007 and 2006.

This is our usual outing to Tatton Park from the forum and we usually get a good attendance. Last year I think we managed 15 zeds. As usual I have organed the traditional bacon butty breakfast before decending en masse to the show, followed by a short "bimble" and an early evening meal afterwards for those that want it.

Approximate times are as follows:
10.00am - Meet up and have bacon butties at Booths in Knutsford
10.45am - Convoy to the show and display zeds in "Z" area
4pm - Short "bimble" round Cheshire and the Peak District
6pm - Early evening meal at The Frozen Mop in Mobberley

It is my intention to stay until after the raffle has been drawn at the show, which will hopefully be a little before 4pm. If the weather is nice, then there will be a photo-stop along the "bimble".

Bacon Butties
These will be procured from 10am on at Booths cafe in Knutsford (not our previous garden centre). Booths is located in the middle of Knutsford (green arrow on map). The entrance is off Stanley Road and the easiest access is from the Toft Road/Adams Hill traffic lights, which has a turn filter on it. Car parking is free on a Sunday. Postcode for satnavs is WA16 0BS - please use the links to see exactly where it is.

After we have eaten we will then we will proceed in convoy though the streets of historic Knutsford and enter the Knutsford Gate to Tatton Park and on into the show. You will need some money handy to pay the park entry free - £4.50 per car. We should then have an opportunity for a photo on Tatton driveway.

The Show
The show is a BMWCC organised event which is open to non-members. We normally occupy an area marked out specifically for "Z" cars. There should be some trade stands, a coffee bar and a marquee. There is not an awful lot in the way of food at the show, so if you want snack, please bring them with you. If you are not doing the BBs, then directions to Tatton Park can be found here. There is a small entry fee for the show as well as the park entry fee.

The Bimble
After the show we will be doing a short drive around Cheshire and part of the Peak District. The route is about 50 miles in total. It will not be fast, but please do still read Spokey's Guide to Cruise Etiquette if you are planning on taking part. We will be passing through a few towns and villages on the way and 30 limits will be religiously observed. A TomTom itinerary file is available from Dave L2.

The Evening Meal
A table has been booked at The Frozen Mop in Mobberley. This is a lovely pub which has recently been refurbished. I have eaten here previously and was very impressed with the food. There is a sample menu on their website, which will give you an idea of what they offer and their price range.

How to take part
Please post up your interest here and I will maintain a list of whom we are expecting to attend. If you could also state your interest in BBs and EMs too, it will help me gauge numbers. If you the start is too early and you can only make the show, then please still post your interest as we need to tell the organisers roughly how many cars we are bringing.

Hi Robert

I was waiting for you to pick up on this with your usual brilliant organisation!!!!! I'll do the same as last year and go ahead and make sure that we've got the space to accommodate all the Zeds. Unfortunately I can't help them out on Saturday but I will contact Geoff to make sure that he is aware of the numbers attending.

By chance I saw you out in the Sprite this afternoon. You were going on to the roundabout at the Marriott/4 Seasons and I was going the other way. I gave you a wave but you had no reason to respond as I was in Elaine's white BMW 1 Series 120d M Sport.

Catch you soon.

Hi Mike. I thought I saw a 1er wave, but I was a bit puzzled as to why!
Was just giving the frog a bit of a run out - through the airport tunnels and back, the off down the lanes through Ashley, Knutsford and Lymm before coming back. Lovely evening and just right for a top down (well, off) run, especially as the frog is running very well at the moment. :D

Be great if you can pass on numbers to Geoff. Lets hope he listens this year.

Look forward to seeing you there. Might see if we can get there a little sooner this year. Have you put in an order for some sun?

As previously discussed, i'll have to decide between Tatton and the Blackpool cruise this year - struggling to make both.

Don't think I can make it this year which is a shame as it is on my birthday too which I thought would be a nice treat to myself but unfortunatly the wife thinks otherwise :(

Have a good day but will I will see you all the following weekend at Harewood.

There was a torrential downpour towards the end of the afternoon which did create a few large puddles.

The field at Tatton is usually pretty well drained, but we did have one or two puddles last year, but nothing major. I remember a 3er having a bit of fun, but he was trying to put too much power down. It certainly wasn't as muddy as Cholmondley was earlier this year - I got stuck on the way in!

Looks like we are filling up nicely. I'm still planning the EM part, but I have my eye on one or two nice pubs and I'm looking at a nice drive, perhaps with a couple of photo opportunities, to get to them, so I would encourage any of you who are dithering, to go for it and make a day out of it - it has previously rounded the day off very nicely.

I can certainly vouch for last year's venue - very well found Robert you must get a lot of miles in doing all that researching.

Seriously thanks for organising this again - I'm trying to collect enough brownie points to make sure that we both come and include the EM.

I have been scouting out a new BB venue as the garden centre we used previously doesn't start serving food until 10.30. New venue has acres of free parking (on a Sunday anyway) and starts serving at 10am. We will then use the other entrance to Tatton and we can hopefully get some shots of the procession of zeds on the driveway and possibly by the lake.

Oh, and I sampled the BB's just to make sure they were up to par - they were - yum yum. :D

I'll sort the EM venue out and post up details of everything a bit nearer the time. Watch this space as they say.

In the meantime, any more zeds that fancy a cracking day out, please post your interest.

Nope - in fact quite the opposite as I've done lots of housework, etc this weekend. But as we are away for the next couple of weekends there will lots to do on the 5th/6th so being allowed to go to Tatton is my treat whilst SWDZ4 stays at home.

Some scouting has been done and we now have a route for a nice little drive after the show, taking in some of the sights of Cheshire and a little of the Peak District. This will be a bimble rather than a cruise. There will be a photo op en route. Haven't just sussed the timing yet, but it should be long enough to make the EM around teatime. :D

I need to make a booking for the pub in the next few days, even if I can only give them an estimate of the numbers.

If anyone else is interested in coming along, please let me know. Although this is a BMWCC event, this is one where non-members are welcome, so it is open to all zroadsterites. If you only want to do part of the day, that is not a problem. So please do post up if you are interested.

Sorry Rob, that's my fault. it's one of the pieces of info I forgot to let you have. The first leg is about 1 hour 5, so pretty close to google's estimate. If we base the final leg on the same base line and allow a variance for different eating venues 30 mins should be ample. Add the photo stop into that and we should be just on the 2 hours we initially discussed.

Cheers.

I just ran the entire route this afternoon. Took me 1hr 10 to get to the end of Dave's route and then a further 35 mins to get to the pub, all driven at a gentle pace. This included two 5 min stops to reprogram the satnav and a detour for a closed road, so we are looking at a little over an hour and a half, provided we don't get behind too many sunday drivers, plus however long we stop to take photos. There some great bits of road in there and some nice views along the way.

Evening meal has been booked and I just need to confirm numbers on the Friday before the show. The guy I spoke to was very helpful and it looks like a nice table we will be getting. :D

I will amend the original post with the details and approximate times things will be happening.

Thanks Dave for your planning of the route. I will update the map with todays findings. We are looking good to go. :P

Subject to any last minute panics the route for the "Tatton Park Bimble" is now finalised.

There will be printed directions for anyone who wants them on the day, for those of you with a navigator. Anyone who would like a copy of the Tom Tom Itinery file should PM me with an email address and I'll send out the file late next week.

As Rob has said anyone who has not been on a zroadster.net run before should familiarise themselves with Spokey's Guide to Cruise Etiquette particularly as there are a couple of unavoidable tricky junctions and we don't want to loose anyone. There are NO planned fuel stops en-route and as we are not starting from a service station, please ensure you arrive at Tatton Park with enough fuel.

Anyone with PMRs please bring them along, we are not anticipating a huge group but the more we can do to ensure no-one gets lost the beter.

Thanks go to Rob for organising the day and for his help with local road knowledge.

Final call for anyone who is thinking of joining us for the evening meal. I need to confirm numbers to the pub tomorrow, so if you would like to do the drive and meal, then please let me know now.

For those of you who have already confirmed for the drive and evening meal, could you please PM me with the usual details - namely car, real name, registration and mobile number. This will help me to make sure we haven't lost anyone.

If you want the TomTom itinerary file, then please contact Dave L2.

Have nearly finished cleaning my zed, now the challenge is to keep it clean till Sunday, which means Froggy is on shopping duty.

Looking forward to seeing you all on Sunday morning. :D

The Tom Tom Itinerary File has been emailed to those who requested it. If anyone else wants a copy and has not already sent me a PM with their email address you need to do so this afternoon. I am travelling up tomorrow morning and will not have access to my PC over the weekend so this is your last chance.

Momo was positively bouncing up and down with excitement in the garage this evening - I think she is looking forward to meeting lots of zeds tomorrow now that she is all clean and shiney. :D

I will try and remember to sling my laptop in the car in case anyone needs the TT itinerary.

Hope you are all set to go and look forward to meeting up with you all at Booths for bacon butties at 10.

See you all tomorrow.

Cheers R.

Couldn't sleep, had been for a curry Saturday night and was up a 3am

Was tempted to go for a spin on empty roads but would have got car dirty for today
