Lakes Lash Sept '09
Lakes Lash Sept '09
A few of us spent the weekend in Keswick, making the most of the Sunshine
I thought you might like to see some of the photos, although they don't do any justice to the scenery or the cars, I'm sure others will be along to post up some better ones!
This I think is called Surprise Hill!
The surprise being that if you're not careful this might happen to your car
The start of Hardknott Pass, and it just got tighter
We made it!....
To the top
And in one piece
Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
Not the clearest picture, but you get the gist of what it was like.
Back at the Hotel
Derwent Water from above
I'll try to add some more once I've gone through them properly

Hi Kruisn, kruisn wrote:Neat photo's Calbens, looks like an interesting drive. Was the road/path very long? and where did you stay o/night?
That particular road is known as Hardknott pass, which goes over/between the mountains.
Apparently it's a 1 in 3 gradient and rises to 1291 feet! Enough to scare me anyway.
I've added this link Visit Cumbria , looks like the weather was slightly better when they took those photos
We were based in Keswick staying at the Keswick Country House Hotel. Great place to stay if you're ever visiting the lakes.
Bex
Thanks Bex, What a neat drive. Was over there in 82 and drove a bit of the Lake district, but missed that one. Damn I will have to come back and have another look lol. Luv the night shot on the "Visit Cumbria" site.
Zds have a way of making drives like that a whole lot of fun don't they.
Kind regards,
Bryan.

I'd be lying if I didn't admit to being scared, I hate heights at the best of times and with the roads being so greasy it added to my fear lol Didn't help on the way down that you got to a hair pin bend and couldn't see exactly where the run road went:shock:PVR wrote:I am not too sure Mrs PVR considered it that much fun ...
I was lucky, my traction didn't falter, probably because it's only a 2.0 L (small can have its advantages)
Probably just as well you didn't join us on the Sunday run PVR! One or two of the roads were like riding the Big Dipper at a fairground! I've never seen so many severe dips on a road
Maybe I would have felt a lot better if I hadn't eaten so much at breakfast

Some nice pics there, Bex. The first one is Ashness Bridge, on the road leading up to Surprise View and Watendlath. If you think it was bad in a zed, I have sat and watched an Argos lorry try to get over it - in the end they decided it best not to and the lady from the farm had to back down to the bridge in her landy and they transferred the stuff from one vehicle to the other.
I have actually been up round there in Froggy this week. I only drove up Sunday afternoon, otherwise I would have suggested meeting up. My dad and I had a toodle up to Keswick and out round Buttermere and over the top to Newlands. We set off with the roof off, but it was a bit chilly and spotting with rain, so we popped it back on again after we got through Keswick. Still a nice day out though.
Better weather today, so have just driven back sans roof in 2 hrs 10 min including two sets of roadworks and a small traffic jam - not bad as I did some of it on the A6.
I still haven't been over Hardknott, but it does look like fun. Furthest I got was up over Wrynose and along Wrynose Bottom to the little bridge. One of these days I will get over there as I want to see if Wastwater on a clear evening does indeed look like the painting I have on my lounge wall.
Cheers R.
