Dorset Z3s and neighbours airfield run NEW date Sunday 7 Mar

Post by Ci »

Following our excellent coffee meet at Compton Abbas airfield (nr Shaftesbury), another one is organised on Sunday 7 March at 10am for coffee (+ a run down and up Zig Zag). At 11am we drive cross country to Okeford Fitzpaine, Bulbarrow hill, Hilton, then on to Hambro Arms, Milton Abbas for a drink, and those who want a roast lunch (around £11 main meal), or bar snacks if they have enough staff on.
To register either add to this/or email + OK for lunch... Ci

Hi Robin
Glad you can join us. Let me know how many for lunch - pub - roastie or bar snack. Yes I remember the run we did in the New Forest, now that was a wet day! Best - Lepe. That was some view (almost touchable) across the sea to the IofW. Let's go there again in this summer for bacon butties...? Plot on 10th. cheers Ci

Hello again. Looking forward to meeting up again and meeting Robin for the first time.

We're not sure about the meal. Whether to just snack or have a main course. Dare we say we'll go with the majority?

I'm very intrigued to hear the full story of your find and history. What state is it in at the moment?

Hi there
A lovely day for the Dorset run this morning! Was out near Milton Abbas on new year's day too - very good beer at the Hambro Arms our lunch stop for either a roast or light snack. More info on the Airfield to the pub above...

Hi everyone
Due to this freezing weather forecast - ice, snow, sleet etc for the next week - have decided to abort our meeting on Sunday 10 Jan at Compton Abbas airfield. The roads up there will not be gritted (good for the car but bad for ice).
So we'll re-schedule for March. Give me suggestions for convenient dates. Meanwhile keep snug.

Ci as we have had to cancel our weekend away to Portsmouth/Southampton this weekend because of snow & ice, we plan to re-book another weekend and the 7th March would be good for us. Did you get my email reply to you and the pic. of the Roedean cafe?

Hi there Topaz Z3 and welcome
You'll enjoy this short but action packed drive - with our master 'cruise meister' leading. Yes the sun is on my request list.
Now come on other colours: we have two silvers (mine destined for the crusher in July 09) and all the other cars are blue???

I`m also new on here, I have a Z3 2.2 Roadster, which sadly is in with the dealership for a new gearbox!! (Only just bought it believe it or not!!). Anyway, never been on a "cruise" before so if you will let me and the girlfreind tag along we would be pleased to attend, definitly for food as well please!

Oh and mine is black, don`t think its rare but adds a bit of variety?

Many thanks

Hi Michael, it's a grass strip and you'd be shot if you tried to out pace a Tiger Moth or Cessna. Ha!  At the end of the strip planes rise into the air, Z3s plumet over the edge. Compton Abbas airfield has a lovely cafe and wonderful views from it's hill top position. Come along and enjoy a lovely day.

You should have gone to Santa Pod with the group in September. For £25.00 you could have run up their strip as much as you wanted.

Peter.

ha stick and wrong end hey, i fly from shoreham in a da40 tdi, you fly too? never landed on a grass strip yet, not sure the flying company likes there planes landing there, can't see the problem myself but as i'm doing my ppl training don't actually have much say yet.

Missed the Santa pod thing, i half remember seeing it on the day everyone was going.

PPL? I envy you. My brother is ex-tornado now flying FlyBe prop jobs. I envy him as well. However, my Z3 knocks spots off his series one oil burner. :roflmao:

Hope you didn't mind my humour. It's just that the thought of seeing a Z3 tearing down the strip might be a bit too much for some visitors to the airfield.

Hi there Chris and others who are interested in this gig. Please see my post above as to what sort of run we are doing (a short one, but filled with 'interesting' driving/things to see I can assure you). Let me know if you are either 'confirmed' as coming (if so do you want lunch at the pub, if you want roast or light baguette or equivalent), or if you are just 'interested' at this stage. I will need to tell the pub a couple of days beforehand. One or two people? See the list above for info. Colour of car and date etc always useful. You don't need to bring anything. Cheers - Ci

Well folks it seems that 'blue' is colour of the day so far - six. With two silvers, two blacks and one WHITE. All in a sea of rolling green hills and valleys.
Oh and they do a good breakfast up there at the airfield, if anyone is interested, from 9.30...

It sounds we will have a great time :dunce:
So we meet at Compton Abbas airfield at 10am? I'm of for breakfast at 9:30am.
Can anyone recommend a nice B&B in the area? I will be arriving the day before, as it is a long drive from Essex.

Hi Cathia,

Shatesbury is the closest town so if you google B&B in shaftesbury then you should find one that's decent.

Looking forward to the 7th and meeting new friends.

The airfield is Compton Abbas. It is a private grass strip airfield with a lovley clubroom/bar/restraunt and the views overlooing the countryside are stunning. The airfield is on top of a plateau.

Google it and you'll see what I mean.

See you in four weeks Cathia.

Hi everyone,
Breadvanman in the coupe is most welcome to join us. If you want to come on the run and have lunch please let me know what food you are wanting in advance - roast or light lunch - so that I can tell the pub. I have been meeting Z3 people all over the place, at the dealer's, car parks, in Blandford, at the airfield. So let's hope for a dry day!

At present: 'you can have any colour you want, as long as it's blue...'
Colour chart all blue apart from one white, green, three blacks and three silvers...

Coffee meet at Compton Abbas airfield (nr Shaftesbury), on 7 March at 10am for coffee (+ a run down and up Zig Zag). At 11am we drive cross country to Okeford Fitzpaine, Bulbarrow hill, Hilton, then on to Hambro Arms, Milton Abbas for a drink, and those who want a roast lunch (around £11 main meal), or bar snacks. The airfield does breakfast from 9.30 if you are really hungry... :P

To register either add to this/or email + OK for lunch... Please let me know what you want to eat at the pub: roast or baguettes etc.
For directions to the airfield try www.abbasair.net

Hey Chrome1,

Did you go to Gaydon last year? If so, think the missus and I were next to you. Iris had the Z3 with pearl leather and you had the tastey Alpina Z4.

We were the Topaz Z3 - you might of guessed !!!

Look forward to catching up with you both, although I think we have no chance with your Alpina !!!

Regards Dave. :thumb:
