Northern BMW Festival at Tatton Park - 11th July 2010

Post by Robert T »

Northern BMW Festival at Tatton Park
Knutsford, Cheshire - Sunday 11th July 2010
tattonpark.org.uk wrote:Now in its 11th year. Tatton Park once again plays host to the largest gathering of BMW's in the North of England. With a concourse competition, a huge Show & Shine competition. BMW race cars on display. Regular displays from the likes of M Power, ZED and Alpina, plus the new MINI Register, cars for sale, specialist trade stands, autojumble etc. There really is something for everyone interested in the BMW marquee. All BMW owners are welcome to join the fun. With a children's fairground to keep the young ones happy and all the attractions that Tatton Park has to offer, the show really makes for a fun day out for all the family.

10am - 4pm, Adult £2.00, Children under 16yrs free. Normal Park Entry charge applies.
More info on Tatton Park and BMWCC. Some pics from previous years here: 2009, 2008, 2007 and 2006.

This is our usual outing to Tatton Park from the forum and we usually get a good attendance. Last year I think we managed 15 zeds. As usual I will be organising the traditional bacon butty breakfast before decending en-masse to the show, followed by a short "bimble" and an early evening meal afterwards for those that want it. Bacon butty, route and evening meal venue are still to be decided.

Pre-Show Meet
We will be meeting at Booths in Knutsford for the traditional partaking of Bacon Butties before the show. For those not willing to try this local delicacy, there will also be Sausie Sarnies or even a full cooked breakfast on offer (though you better be a quick eater!). Food will be served from 10am on, so we will begin gathering at about 9.45am. We should be on our way to the show at about 10.30am. The postcode on the website (WA16 0BS) misses the mark slightly, so here is a map.

The Show
The show is a BMWCC organised event which is open to non-members. We normally occupy an area marked out specifically for "Z" cars. There should be some trade stands, a coffee bar and a marquee. There is not an awful lot in the way of food at the show, so if you want snack, please bring them with you. If you are not doing the BBs, then directions to Tatton Park can be found here. There is a small entry fee for the show as well as the park entry fee of £5.

The Bimble
Details to be confirmed. Current route is a nice leisurely drive out into the Peak District. Start point is the show and end point is the Evening Meal venue.

The Evening Meal
For those that want it, I have a table booked at The Frozen Mop in Mobberley at 6.30pm. I have confirmed numbers for this now, if there are any alterations, I will need to let them know. For those of you who are coming, the menu is online here.

How to take part
Please post up your interest here and I will maintain a list of whom we are expecting to attend. If you could also state your interest in BBs and EMs too, it will help me gauge numbers. If you the start is too early and you can only make the show, then please still post your interest as we need to tell the organisers roughly how many cars we are bringing.

I will post up more details of the bimble as soon as they are confirmed.

Hi Robert

I'll do the usual job of trying to keep a parking spot free!! at Tatton. When we get a good idea of numbers I'll e-mail the Club to warn them of our grand turn-out.

I have an element of 'M-styling' on my car, If that's a good enough reason for the manufacturers to adorn a 320 with the M badge, then its certainly a good enough reason for me..

Mrs ZC is a founder member and major sponsor of the "a woman can never have too many handbags or shoes" movement  So by the time we have enough handbags and shoes for the morning, the afternoon, etc with alternatives for possible different outfits we can usually just fit a couple of toothbrushes in the Z3.

I on the other hand am trying to form the "a man can never have enough Zed's" movement but Mrs ZC refuses to acknowledge this fledgling movement and keeps trying to strangle it.

I did buy her a rather nice handbag just before I went out and bought the Z3

2 weeks topless in France is easy.
2 nights in/near Manchester requires so many options to be catered for :!:

We're thinking of making a long w/end of it too ZC
Might have to get a tow bar fitted for the trailer though :P

If you're thinking of staying over city centre to go shopping, check out the Renaissance Manchester Marriott.

Stayed there couple of months ago - got a good deal and so central, short walk to china town too.

Private underground secure car park too :D

Well I guess you need your rubber gear and your leather gear and all your makeup, Titan, if you're planning on staying in Manchester.

Personally I'd book somewhere that doesn't half an hours drive through the city to get out into CHESHIRE. I wouldn't fancy leaving my zed in a city centre car park either.

Neither would I, but the 1 I recommended Robert is a private secure one for the hotel residents only otherwise I wouldn't have mentioned it. You can't get into the car park area unless you've got a room keycard.

It was just a suggestion in case anyone was coming shopping in the city centre, in which case you wouldn't want to drive in and leave your zed on a public car park

We've got rellies from the US over in July and I can't get a straight answer about what weekend we are seeing them so just in case I have to bail out I won't sign up for the meal.

It's not confirmed yet, but Booths at Knutsford managed to cope with us all last year, even if the traffic system didn't! If that doesn't work out, then it will probably be High Legh garden centre. I will post up the full details in good time when they are confirmed - we still have 8 weeks to go, so there is no need to panic just yet!

Is the Tatton Park festival just for Northern folk or would a Southern (fair weather) Softie be welcome???

Thinking of making the journey up from the west country for the weekend.

Sounds good, will bring sunshine so we don't take up valuable space with woolies. Glad we have heated seats though.

Will bring passports and money for the tourist visas. Will we need a phrase book though ??? or can one of you interpret for us ???

Rob T - please add the missus and I to your list for the show and will meet you all for Bacon Butties, alas will not have the time for the evening meal.

Well excited now.......... :)

just a thought, if any you guys/gals are in south yorkshire or passing through on route to Tatton then we should/could all travel together at a meeting point to suit us all. any suggestions? i live a stone throw from christophe so that'll be 2 of us . any more?
looking at google maps we'd then travel over the woodhead pass but open to any other scenic route. :D

We stayed at Rothsthern House last year, it's right by the gate for Tatton but I wouldn't recommend it. The rooms were very cold and drafty, the energy saving lamps in the bathroom made no difference when on or off, the cooked breakfast was cold and the whole house smells of damp & dogs :(

Premier Inn for us again this year, £29 per night if booked online and in advance.

Thanks for that Dave!
I was originally winding YoungCanman up by simply picking one of the places nearest to Tatton.

For those of you staying over, there are quite a number of Premier Inns within striking distance of Tatton - The Kilton at Mere is probably the nearest, followed by The Swan at Bucklow Hill, but there are others at Alderley Edge, Wilmslow and Altrincham, which are all pretty close by. I wouldn't recommend the airport one as it is pay and display parking and not a fresh cooked brekkie. I use Premier Inns a lot for work and they are pretty good value, always clean and always comfy beds.

For those fancying something a bit more special, then there are lots of places to stay, but being local I can only comment on ones my parents have stayed in and that only amounts to Cranage Hall, near Holmes Chapel (which is nice) and the airport Holiday Inn.

If you can run to it, the Cottons Hotel just outside Knutsford has a very nice spa attached, but I've not stayed there.

Oh, and Dave L2 is also a southern softy, so you should be in good company, Topaz Z3.

Cheers R.
