March 11th Red Z NoZe Day, London Bridges Cruise?

Post by tetchmeister »

Red NoZe Day
For my first foray into cruise arranging, i thought why not try a charity event.

Meet at 9:00 (ish) pm at Thurrock Services on the M25.
(90 mins or so drive)

Straight over the QE2 Bridge, head town wards.
Blackwall tunnel, (bring your loudest exhaust)
Rotherhithe Tunnel
Tower Bridge,
London Bridge, (not in Nevada)
Southwark Bridge
Blackfriars Bridge
Waterloo Bridge
Westminster Bridge
Lambeth Bridge
Vauxhall Bridge
Chelsea Bridge
Albert Bridge
Battersea Bridge
Wandsworth Bridge
Putney Bridge
Hammersmith Bridge
Chiswick Bridge
Kew Bridge
Twickenham Bridge
Richmond Bridge
Kingston Bridge
Hampton Court Bridge
Walton Bridge
Chertsey Bridge
Staines Bridge
and finally Runnymede Bridge if we make it that far......

Reassemble in the Runnymede Hotel Carpark.

So there are 27 possible Bridges in all
(doubles dont count....)

The thought is for all participants to buy a Red Nose Day Tee Shirt £9.99
each car to wear the Car nose, £2 (if there is such a thing this year)
and every roof to be down. (Weather permitting of course)

Any takers?? If so i'll get us registered on the RND site, and maybe we can get some sponsorship, 50p a bridge or something??

Tetch.

Unfortunately it looks like I can't make it but wish you well--I bought red nose and assorted accessories yesterday.

What about everyone applying Wella's 'official red hair spray' to make it a bit more 'involving'. You should be able to get it along with the other red nose stuff.

Right,

Now there are three of us, I can ask poeple if they would like to sponsor us.

How about cash per car per bridge, With over 1500 members, I reckon we can give quite a bit as a group.

say 10p per car per bridge, 3 cars (could be more), 15 bridges, totals £4.50 any takers for those who can't make it?

For the Partakers of the drive, a visit to TK Max is in order to get some t shirts, and a nose perhaps. (anyone brave enough for Tims red hair suggestion?)

Ok, due to peer pressure, put me down as interested, but I'll have to confirm nearer the time...

Actually, I think it's a brilliant idea Tetch.

My only worry is....
How do you keep a long string of Zeds together all through the centre of the City and the West End???? It won't be easy!

Cheers!

I just want to offer in my defence that I don't like driving in London, ever. It's my least favourite thing to do. I would hate to get stranded at the traffic lights or not be able to force my way into a queue and lose everybody, because I'd be lost straight away. Stuff like night-time roadworks or bridge maintenance would only scare me more. Real Londoners probably wouldn't even notice it!

But if there are brave souls who enjoy that kind of thing, I'd happily offer a small donation...

I'm interested - did anyone register the event at the RND link, and it might be worth a bit of publicity, you never know, the Beeb might let us all drive round TV centre if we get enough cars?

Looking more likely that I'm 'in' for this - will cover the event photographically of course.

Can't see how it's only 90 minutes though - for Dartford to Runneymede, I'd say more like 4 hours - especially zig-zagging over the bridges. It's something I've always wanted to do though, so sounds like fun!

I'm doing a test run on Monday (28th), (snow permitting) so a more accurate time should be available then. It only takes 45 mins to drive it not crossing all of the bridges, and a third of the drive is from the QE2 to Blackwall, with no crossings..... but sure 90 mins is a tad optomistic ... I guess we will see how many we can get done before midnight, with a couple of Photo stops thrown in for fun.

If those partaking can PM me the usual details, i would appreciate it.

What a fabulous idea Tetchmeister.

I'll certainly make my usual Comic Relief donation via this event instead of phoning it in on the night.

I bought a couple of the noses in Sainsbury the other day and they come with some red hair gel and face paint - might add to the effect. Roof down, nose on, hair red

Pity I can't join in. :(

Try contacting the beeb to let them know what you're up to and they might feature it.

Best of luck to everyone taking part.

And everyone else - make a donation thru Tetchmeister's cruise.

We have 5 cars attempting to cross 26 bridges so far.
I am doing a test route on Monday evening. (it won't be a dress rehearsal!!) :clown:

Sponsorship can be made at:

Definitely in -

Wife briefed to purchase XL t-shirts, so we can wear them over warm fleece etc.

Note that you can only buy the t-shirts from TK-MAXX, and the noses from Sainsbury's.

Tetchmeister - are you going to keep a list of who is in, so we can see the number of cars increasing?

Test Run

Post by tetchmeister »

Hmmmm, Snow, closed bridges and a few wrong turns, make the route more like 3 hours, especially with more cars, (2 went tonight)

London Bridge was closed, and we missed Chelsea bridge (to keep on the best side of the river..... honest!!)

I am going to try to do the run again before the weekend, and hopefully get some route notes for everyone.

Don't forget, its all for Charity. 8-)

My guess is the run will be a few short of the speculated 26 bridges, but all the best ones will be covered.

Great! - looking forward to it - and am doing some pics for the local papers this week.

I'm interested particularily in the Chiswick/Richmond/Twickenham/Kingston/Hampton Court combinations - just can't quite get my head round this lot (used to live in Sunbury), I look forward to seeing the notes.

Would be really nice to get the whole 26 in... (pressure, pressure)

(sponsorship for me up to £175 now...)

If you have not got your t-shirt - GET IT NOW - the RND site has sold out, you may still be able to get them from TK-MAX, where we got ours today.

There are no car noses this year, but I reckon we can modify the 'normal' noses with holes and a cable tie - I'll work it out and post instructions.

Nipped down to Sainsbury's, and with the use of a sharp knife and a couple of cable ties, I successfully have made a RND'05 car nose.

Squeeze the nose and make vertical slits about 5mm long either side, slip through a cable tie and BINGO! - one car nose.

Use an extra cable tie if you need it longer, then trim any unsightly ends - I've left mine in the photo on the front of my 330 so you can see how it sent on. Grill on the Z will be just the same.

Be careful with the sharp knives children!
