A fiver for IAM training?

On Saturday 13th November the Basingstoke Group of the Institute of Advanced Motorists is putting on a one day Better Driving Course. The venue is the Richard Aldworth School in Basingstoke.

If you would like to attend you would be very welcome but you must pre-book by telephoning 01256 781 173. This is partly because the Group is putting on refreshments and lunch - cost to you £5.

Lunch and talking about cars for a whole day for a fiver!

Course Content includes:

Driving Attitude.
Observation - how to develop it
Acceleration, Braking and Gear Changes and smooth car control
Junctions and Bends (Limit Point Analysis)
Overtaking
Manouvers
The System of Car Control
Skids, Oversteer, Understeer

All with lots of pictures, "live" explanations from Observers and Videos.

You even get a "demonstration drive" in the afternoon where an IAM Observer takes you out as a passenger to show you how what you've seen earlier is put into practice.

No hard sell on joining the IAM - but the opportunity will be there if you want to.

We PHers bang on about how the best approach to Road Safety is training and not draconian automated enforcement - well here's your chance to get a bit of the right stuff! And its dirt-cheap.

Who this course will suit.

If you already hold a ROSPA Gold or an IAM pass nothing in this course will be news to you. If Ride/Drive reckon you'd make a Class 1 Police Driver it will likely be too simplistic for you.

If, on the other hand, you have "thought about doing an Advanced Driving course" this course will deliver the theory in one neat package - ready for you to take on into ROSPA/IAM or simply to build into your everyday driving by yourself.

See you there.

do you actually like driving at all or are cars to you just a manifestation of some sort of pathological mother complex ?

Well worth the money!

Failing that, go to any of your local IAM groups and they will take you for an assesment drive for free... pls attend thier monthly/weekly meet - all good stuff and cheap insurance...

D

PS - boy racers need not apply...

Bummer - I work in Andover (15mins from Basingstoke) during the week and live in Nottingham at weekends. Why are things always going on at the wrong end of the country for me? Nobody loves me :bawl:
