Southern Softies?

Post by Titan »

Been "darn sarf" today all the way from a misty wet N Yorks, to a very sunny Essex.
Saw LOADS of Z3s and a couple of Z4s but not ONE of them had their hood down despite beautiful sunny open top weather :(

Followed a nice silver pre-facelift Z3 "MAX **" into the centre of Chelmsford (didn't get the engine but only 2 pipes) around 0930
Red Z3 northbound on the A130 circa 1230
Boston Green Z3 south on A130 ditto
Any takers?

There was also an intrepid MGZF in Chelmsford who musty have forgotten how to put the roof back up - 'cos it was still down :!:

I'll be back again in about 10 days but won't be waving from the Zafira pool car

:) Here's one Southern Softy that had the top down on his Z all day today around Kent revelling in the sunshine wind in hair.Didn't even put the top up in the garage as I will take it out tomorrow top down that's what I got a Roadster for.

I'm from 'darn sarf' and what you say is correct. I have my hood off whenever I can. Have had to stop and put it up when it started raining twice this week! I never seem to see anyone wit the hoood down. Doesn't matter if it's an MX-5, MGf, or Z3. Although, they all seem to have windows down. Very strange!

I will try to explain .............
1) Journey just too short
2) Or a long motorway trip
3) Too cold (Z3 window could crack)
4) Too hot
5) Or you just want to drive really badly.

Ah, so this is what differentiates us. :D

1) Journey just too short - no such thing - I'd drive to the corner shop in mine with the roof down!
2) Or a long motorway trip - if it's not raining then it will be down on the mway too
3) Too cold (Z3 window could crack) - leave car to idle for 5 mins with the heater on before setting off
4) Too hot - this is the UK - there is no such thing
5) Or you just want to drive really badly. -

The only valid excuses I have for not having mine down are: hardtop is on the car; it is p'ing down; it is snowing; it is a showery day on the mway as pulling off to put it up is a pain. Even having my mother in the car is no excuse as she likes the roof down too.

Came across the moors last night on my way home, roof down going over the top of the big bridge over the 62. 8-)

indeed i actually drive on the a127 with the roof down , as its slower than a road with a school down !

the a130 , a12 and a13 i normally keep up to the speed limit so i dont get mummys in there land rovers up me arse ! and with the roof down can be quite crazy !

I live in Chelmsford and rarely see any Z3s. Most people round here don't like to put their tops down though.

I'm in Sarfampton in Ampshire. Always have top down at every opportunity.
Baffles me why people pay the extra cost of softop cars then keep the top up on a nice day :puzzle:

The Boston Green Z3 may have been me - not with the 'M' badge though. Mine has a Nurburgring and ACS badge on the rear.

Contrary to popular belief, she does still work and is used occasionally - and hopefully a bit more now I've changed jobs - especially in Essex ;)
