Hi all, I am new to the Forum and as such i have been reading loads of the subject matter sent in about anything and everything. I am 63 years old and thought i new nearly everything about cleaning cars. HOW WRONG I WAS, Infact i know very little, Having seen some instructional videos, read what members do to clean there cars i now need a whole new set of materials, Mitts, Clays, Buckets, Car wash etc the list is endless. But to make a start i thought i would get the basics, Bucket x 2, Mitts, Car wash, the trouble is when you look at Meguires site, which car wash/shampoo do i buy? as there must be at least a dozen i could pick from. My Wife & I have a RED Z3 Jan 1999 1.9 with 48000 on the clock which we have owned for the past 7 years, I have added a hardtop this winter and just this week added some 18" BBS style alloys (will post pics later) and fitted a new rear sreen to the softop. I would be greatful if someone could advise me which Car wash/shampoo to buy as i now realise i'm not just cleaning the car I am now a DETAILER a name i had not come across before. I have always kept my cars clean but feel i must now use this information and new name to make the cars look even better. My other car is a 1976 Vauxhall High Performance FIRENZA 2300. Sorry to take up so much space but a quite afternoon at work.

I use meguires shampoo plus 5 litre c£20. Last forever (you only need a couple of cap fulls in a bucket, most people use too much and just create foam with it, smells lovely as well)

I would really recommend "claying" your car. If you get the maguires clay kit your car will feel like "butter" after, I promise and its pretty easy work to do (easier than waxing your car  )

looking forward to seeing the pics :rtm:

Hi, big zed welcome from me too.

I 2nd what Jonttt said about the Megs clay, really impressed me.

Personally I like AutoGlym Shampoo but I'm sure the Megs is great too.

If you want to have a read about Serious detailing then look no further than this site

it will keep you occupied if you have another quiet day at work :D

Don't forget to put some pics up when you can.
