Hi all, weighing up the Z3!
Hi All,
My wife currently has a 118d company car and i've got a 7 month old 320d coupe highline auto with lovely red leather but.... i need a hobby car to care and love for that will also be ok for the odd trackday.
I have a budget of 7-8k but would like to keep some back for mods as never done anything to a car as motorbikes used to keep me occupied.
So after putting boxsters at the top of the list i was dismayed to find out the insurance costs any some of the horror stories around the rms and ims issues.
So now back to reality and my favourite badge a beemer so heres to you all and spending many a hour researching for a new toy. I think i may wait for deepest winter to grab a bargain unless something comes up that is to good to miss.
Cheers All, Jon

Hi Swamper
Thinking of the 2.2 or 2.8, do you know if any of these have the vanos issues? What do you recommend?
Looking on a few sites looks like i can get a nice example for under 6k which leaves me some cash for a few mods!
Feels safer than going down the boxster route!
I may even get rid of my coupe if the bug takes me LOL

I have a 2.2 sport, sounds fantastic, handles well with the m sport suspension and is the best purchase I have ever made

Track Day Rag Top
I have a 2.2 ... great little car, but ... if I were looking for something of this ilk that I could also throw around a track I would have to look seriously at the Honda S2000.
OK ... I'm off to the dog house!

Re: Track Day Rag Top
Hmmmm not a bad thought just put off with the high insurance and not sure on costs for parts repairs!Bod wrote:I have a 2.2 ... great little car, but ... if I were looking for something of this ilk that I could also throw around a track I would have to look seriously at the Honda S2000.

Welcome jontymo
I went for a drive today, and I have to say. I love my Zed. I wanted an Xk8 but that will have to wait. Which I am happy to do, as the straight six BMW engine is so smooth, and for me, reliable. Having had many different cars over the years, the Zed is the easiest to fix and relatively cheap to run. The last time I changed a rear wheel gearbox myself was back in 1987 on a Morris Ital. The non-turbo, inline engine reminds me of the good old days before it got a bit too complicated under the bonnet.
