Racing Z3 Roadster!

Post by Rogue »

Hi All,

I thought you might be interested to know that there's a BMW Z based racing series kicking off in the UK next year. Initially it will use the 2.8 litre Z3 exclusively but will encompass the Z4 once secondhand prices have dropped to an acceptable level.

Here are some pictures of the prototype racer that we're using to set the technical regulations:

The objective is not necessarily to build the fastest Z3 ever - more to make one that is track focused, safe and very fun to drive.

Cheers,

Patrick

Definitely. We must get a zroadster meet organised at 1 or more of the rounds. Do you have series calendar yet Rogue?

Would be good to come along to one of the rounds if there are any up here in the grim dark North - Oulton Park by any chance?

Cheers R.

As a potentail punter for this series, i'm very interested to hear any advise or warnings that anyone can give me while i'm looking for a donor car.
I presuming from Vic-Z3's comments the diff might be the weak point, any advice on how this can be sorted or is it just something that will go wrong at some point?
Currently looking fo a cheap donor car or 2 so if anyone knows of any...
Thanks
Matt

It's the diff mount you need to worry about rather than the diff itself. As you're prepping for racing then I'd assume that you'd be strengthening this part of the car...

Deano1712 did this himself last winter. Details here

Post by peterandjenny »

As she was picking up her race car , it used to be green and is ment to be fun to drive but the springs are too soft for the track

Version in english.
A lady I work with was picking up her race prepared car from the place this racing z3 is being modified . Knowing we have a z3 she had a chat with them about the car.The driver said it was good fun to drive but the springing was far too soft for a track car.

That'll be Toni collecting her MR2 Roadster. 8-)

You can see from the photos that the suspension is too soft and the car leans into the corner. We knew it would be but there seems to be very little off-the-shelf that is suitable for racing and we needed to get the car out to establish some baselines. I'm currently looking at a switch to the same coilover kit that we use in the MR2 Super GT series.
