New to the Z3
Seems a nice place to be seen in
Just got a 2001 Z3 2.2l and looking for tips/advice/mods as time and money allows.
Meanwhile just content to browse all your stuff - am normally into bikes rather than cars but this one's gone from just transport to therapy

Means they are slightly wider at the rear, or for the layman - fat at the back and skinny at the front...Ming wrote:Eh? Staggered?? Better explain that bit....

Welcome to the forum, nice lloking z also like the colour. Staggered means inch width and offset, ie 8" front 9"rear dont go on the tyres as you can have wider rear than the fronts but exactly the same size wheels.

If they are the original wheels then i would imagine they are staggered not quite sure what the exact sizes are something like 7 or 7.5 front and 8"rears but can not remember the offsets

welcome to the forum Ming, you have chosen a very nice example there as the 2.2 is regarded as quite a peach out of all the various models.
Hope you enjoy it as much as everyone enjoys theres on here (by the way missing mine badly at the moment )

Drove it for the first time tonight - the missus got to drive it back from where we bought it
Really impressed with how easy the roof goes down and up - can't see the point in having it done electrically. Jeez - those fat rear tyres really grip
Heated seats defo a good thing for when it gets chilly.
I'm loving it.........so far

Bitten already Ming!
I got to drive mine back after purchase, in the dark, pouring rain on a poorly lit road and first time driving an auto.... my partner followed me back in our other car and when I pulled up he said I was driving a 2.8 not a milk float
I might add, I don't drive it like a milk float anymore

Four wheeled car, three wheeled trike, two wheeled bike....shame not all at once
Welcome on board ming and its a great car you have there.
It looks like a 2.2 sport with some nice and expensive mods (yes they are the optional staggered split rims).
Here is the original brochure and options list for your car

Wasn't particularly looking for one like this but glad it came along when it did. Few common issues like seized door mirrors and an annoying slow puncture or dodgy valve in a front wheel.......the one that's only recently had a new tyre at over £150
Thanks for the links but can't get either of them to open. Had a look on Parkers and it seems it was about £27k list with the options.......aircon, heated seats, wheels, 6cd changer.

I think I tried to download them when the computer scan was running and it never likes doing anything other than scanning when it's in that mood......
Tried again now and it's fine. didn't realise there was a separate Sport model which mine is......thought it was just the way the ad was worded that it was a "sports" car!
The M-Tech suspension may explan the way the thing handles......

Corrosion on the alloys was the reason the tyre wasn't seated correctly. Got it taken off, rubbed down and refitted for the cost of a puncture repair (£15). He did say that the rest of the alloys would be in the same condition so am getting a quote to have them re-furbed, although being split rims the cost is treble what "ordinary" alloys would be
Everyone I speak to seems to think I got it cheap so I'm happy with that - gives me a little leeway when it comes to mods etc

Your welcome, I haven't seen many that colour, so you were really lucky to get it! That's really reasonable, what sort of ball park figure have you been quoted? And where abouts are you based? If you're local enough I could ask a friend in the trade.
Hope you're enjoying the weather!

Dave

Will know more later in the week but £140 per wheel to take them apart properly has been suggested I'm hoping he has some identical wheels in the workshop as a previous Z owner trashed one wheel on a kerb and bought a complete set of new wheelsDave'z3 wrote:Your welcome, I haven't seen many that colour, so you were really lucky to get it!
