Hello from Gloucester
Hello from Gloucester
Not only my first z3 but also my first sportscar and it has not stopped raining since I brought it home so no pics yet. Its a 2001 2.2 in Topaz blue and I'm rather liking it. I have taken advice from this site and bought a tin of collinite so this weekend I'm gonna polish the arse off it. and take some pics.

Welcome to the forum
When I picked my Zed up it was in the middle of a biblical rain fall, so I know how you feel.
I've just used collinite for the first time on my other car which is a similar colour to Topaz. You won't be disappointed with the shine You may want to have a go at claying it first, for an ultra smooth finish...
Your not too far from me, so keep an eye on the 'Check your diary' section in case I get round to organising another local cruise...

Thanks guys, I was wondering about claying, never heard of it before I found this site, I do have a lot of tiny marks on the front bumper and rear wheel arch would claying help here and then perhaps some coloured wax. I think I'm gonna like this detailing I've already been cleaning under the bonnet, I used to spend hours on my bike and I am sort of missing that feeling of pride and sore fingers.
Yes, its worth claying to remove the surface contaminents.

Hey Colin,
Great choice in engine size, the sound from it makes me...well lets not go there! It was my first sports car when I got mine a couple of months back and even though its been a REALLY rocky start I'm still loving it! The claying is a really good idea I did mine when I first did a proper clean and was really impressed with the results.
Read all the instructions on all your cleaning products...I used a different wax to what I was used to using and did half the car before waxing off. Mr Miagi would be very disappointed and it took me a couple of hours to get off!
Enjoy the cleaning as much as the driving!
Regards,
Dave

Thanks for the welcome guys.
Well this site has been an education to me, first I learnt about claying, read the book, bought the tee shirt and clayed my zed, had a beer, bought some collinite and waxed my zed, had a beer, anyway five hours later and two stone lighter I was able to stagger back and admire my work, fair play the claying really works.
So I took a couple of quick photos before the obligatory rain after cleaning your car came along and moved onto my next education Photobucket. I hope I am now successful in posting pics.
It cant be that easy I must be doing something wrong.
Now looking forward to meeting some more zeds and owners, as I posted earlier this is not only my first zed but also my first sports car so I am on a steep learning curve but lovin the car, the noise(s/s exhaust tee hee)
The colour the lot. I will shut up now. Happy days.

I think my Mrs now feels under serious threat.
Your car looks stunning and worth every second spent on it. I felt exactly the same when I first polished mine and found that replacing the exhaust tips with new ones was 'the icing on the cake'..................bought the wife a cake so she did'nt feel left out
You lot are getting it all wrong.........you should be getting the Mrs to do it while you are down the pub.TWO wrote:

Nice choice of car there 2Zed - we've got the same one in met grey with split rims. Nice wheels but hellishly expensive to have them refurbished
We went through Gloucester on Sat morning on the way to a drive through the Forest of Dean. Changed a bit since I last went there in the late 80's
I have bought the claying kit from Autoglym and also got the hood cleaner/reproofer to use - luckily the missus also enjoys the car so we both get the satisfaction of travelling in it, even if I do the cleaning bit
Missed the turning down the A road through the Wye valley today (from Monmouth) as I was looking at the tunnel in front of me.........hood down, 60 mph, into 3rd and rev to the redline - Jesus, what a magnificent noise. Had to take a 15 mile detour as there were no junctions on that dual carriageway...

But it was totally worth it.

Thanks Ming, I feel the need to apologise for the weather in Gloucester on Saturday morning but hey it would have been lovely by the time you red lined it through the monmouth tunnel, you've given me an idea now. Perhaps the site needs a tunnel thread, a sort of tunnel your way round Britain
Your right Gloucester has changed a wee bit since the late Eighties we now have a broad choice of high class restaurants.....KFC, McDonalds and the ever classy Burger King. Now theres a question can you reach the counter in a drive through McDonalds from a Zed, do they even know your there. Sorry I'm waffling again. I will look out for you on the roads ming.
Happy days

Cars looks great - lovely colour and the wheels are smashing - biased though since I also have them.
Some people try to tell us we're wrong about our passion for cars - I think of my cars as "relaxing time".
