Look what I've bought!

Post by Poley »

Hi, new to the forum, new to Z3's, in fact new to BMW.

Been looking for a 2 seater to just have some fun with for a while now and after much investigating and help from this forum, finally bought a 1997 2.8. Despite the photo's it's that green colour that a lot of this age are.

Love the mechanical sounds, the petrol grunt and close to the road ride (my daily mile muncher is a diesel Volvo V70). Can't wait for the weather to turn so I can get out on those dry B roads with the roof down.

Oh and yeah, yes I am having a mid life crisis. It was this or another woman and the car is definitely a better ride!

If what I've seen so far on the forum is anything to go by, looking forward to getting loads of help and advice. Talking of which, was the '2.8' badge on the back an after market 'sticker', it looks a bit cheap if you ask me?

Nice 2.8. That makes two of us this week having a mid life crisis. :D I'm going to take the badge off the back of mine...I might even replace it with a 1.9 for extra steath and in the hope it'll be less likely to get pinched for a joy ride.

I'm gonna have that 2.8 badge off this weekend. I'd prefer to catch some boy racers out at the lights. Reel them it and then spit them out!

Actually in about 4 weeks time the Volvo goes and a bright new BM 5 Series arrives (520d as it's nice and efficient as a company car) :nerd: .

Must be part of the mid life crisis thing :) I've just got a 320d Touring company car which costs buttons in tax. Be careful though as they have quite a bit of mid range power, so the Z3 might not seem as quick. [We can always mod our Z3s though  ].

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on the Zed. Looks very smart, apart from the missing aerial. Get an OEM replacement or a little mangowalk stubby. Will set if off nicely.

Hope you have many happy Zedding miles at the wheel. :P

Hey everyone, thanks for the very warm welcome.

Small problem with the aerial. Under the rubber cap on the wing there is no wiring and given the radio doesn't pick up an signal I'm guessing that there isn't any connection. I do have a stubby aerial which I found in the car glovebox which I might fix on, but given it wont make any difference to the radio whats the point?

Wiring in an aerial seems quite a lot of effort, especially as the best sound track in this car has to be the engine, exhaust and rushing wind symphany! :D
