Well the Day has finally arrived ...........
After a total of 41 years and 2 months today was my last day at work '
I've been thinking about retiring for about a year and in January volunteered for redundancy. My employers agreed to an early retirement / redundancy package so (theoretically) I've been working a 3-day week since 1st March and as I was on 6 months notice should have finished at the end of August. However I got involved in a major tender so my notice was extended twice but today was the day!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My son is very pleased as he and his wife got the keys to their first house today - a 95 year old house that needs some renovation (a builder is doing that). Then it needs completely re-docorating plus fitting a new kitchen and bathroom that I have been booked for. Nor sure when I'll have time for the list that Mrs ZC has prepared for me that apparently includes having her dinner ready every night for when she gets home from work.
Nice meal with a few colleagues last night and amongst the retirment presents were lots of Meguiars and AG products '

Thanks for all the good wishes.
It's going to be strange on Monday although we have agreed (been instructed) that I will be still get up and make Mrs ZC's breakfast as she just doesn't have the time in the morning
Plans:
Helping son and DIL with their house.
We've booked a week in St Andrews (golf plus house hunting ') and flights to see the family in Ireland.
Ive got details for a 3 or 5-day falconry course still looking for a dry stone walling course and Italian lessons.
Got a long list of things to do getting our house ready for selling - 30 years of things stored in the loft We sort eveything into a) Charity shop; or b) E-bay or c) tip - 5 trips to the charity shop so far

Payment for the work on my son's house is still being negotiated - my offer is 1 round of golf per 2 days of work but he's sticking at 1 round per 3 days.pingu wrote
The trick to retiring is to stop working and still get paid.
I have been very fortunate that I've enjoyed whatever I've been doing at work and it was probably why it took a year to actually make the decision. I'm also fortunate that my employer has said that after a break of a month or so if I want to they will give me a zero hours consultancy contract - see how I feel after I've been at home for a few weeks.Badman gee wrote
