Might do, when he finally gets of the ground. Nice live view of some blue sky at the moment!

Funny you should say that, there was a tweet at the time asking the same thing. I just hope he's not using one to navigate his way back down ;)

I bet all the delays were just so he could go today. 65 years to the day since Chuck Yeager first broke the sound barrier.

Balloon launch due at 1700BST approx. Delayed due to high winds at 700ft (the top of the balloon). Wind speed now <5mph.

Damn, missed it - and I really wanted to watch it live. I think it's absolutely fantastic what he's doing - or rather, done.

Record claims are preliminary at the moment until ratified by governing bodies, but even so, what a nutter :bow

There is a 2 hour BBC/NatGeo documentary coming up covering the 5 years of the project and the various attempts along the way. The live coverage said that would be in about a month, but that's probably for the yanks, rather than us license payers.

I knew that the speed of sound changes with altitude and wondered if he did break the sound barrier (as most believe it to be a constant [760mph approx]).

Wiki shows how the speed of sound varies with altitude. I'd be interested to know at what height he was at when he broke the barrier, which he undoubtedly did as the air is thinner where the sound barrier is lowest.

All credit to him - one small step for a man... :D
