I find this forum is for car enthusiasts.
I find the other forum is for material goods enthusiasts. :roflmao:
What watch/camera/bike/laptop/TV/salary/ do you own?
those are just some of the threads. :?

I have an element of 'M-styling' on my car, If that's a good enough reason for the manufacturers to adorn a 320 with the M badge, then its certainly a good enough reason for me..

Its actually quite an interesting comparison, the newer the car type forums the less I find in the actual interest in the car maybe and more discussions on the other friperies of life, the older the cars the more enthusiasm of the car itself.

Yes its me and i stand by what i said...the other forum is much more of a community and has alot more social events, larger meets, off topic discussions. This is more focused as a car forum and dosnt much seem to have a social community side to it...for example i posted on a meet thread asking if that meet (would of been local to me) was still being held...not one response in over a month..but if i post on the stock exchange or the Z3 threads..replies straight away. The Z4 forum also seems to have more active members who post reguarly about a whole veriety of topics..their lounge section is probably the busiest on the site because its set up to have a community feel and is definately a more active forum that way. I would say the general level of knowledge on here is better but the Z4 forum has a few guys that really know their stuff too. This is a good forum or i wouldnt waste my time with it...would just be nice if the lounge, jokes and events where as well populated as the technical side.

Might I just point out that The Lounge is set to auto-prune, so old chit chat posts do get deleted. It seems to vary from year to year, but it has been very busy at various times over the years. The trouble is that for chit chat, Facebook and the like are very much more instant, so many people have moved over to those. It would be nice to get back to some more of the local meets, but as always they require someone who is able to attend regularly to get them going - I'd do better starting on in Belgium at the moment!!!

I just find that with most things nowadays, the world is changing.
This forum is populated by people who are mostly older than those on the Z4 forum, and the way people communicate and socialise is changing.
I wouldn't need a phone with 5000 texts a month, cos I would rather call people than send one hours worth of one word texts. (thats if they can be bothered with words nowadays, PMSL,LMFAO etc.
You can see this on Tw*tter and Facebook and all the other social sites.
90% of the time there is no substance anymore.
You can also see this on Z4-forum that there are joke threads, but it is one joke followed by three pages of 'one smiley' posts, No wonder they rack up 10,000 posts, At least on here the joke thread is a joke followed by another joke and another. not pages of 'thumbs ups' and +1's.

There is a young guy at work that sits on every break with 10 of us, and never says a word cos he spends all the time looking at his phone. When we ask, he says it it a 'Social Network'. so social that he ignores everyone around him. :head:
Now its not a problem, its' just change.
I believe that on here we are a bit more 'old school', and care about cars foremost.
I don't give a toss who has the most expensive watch collection or the biggest salary. I just care about my Zed and how its the best one on here :roflmao:

My aim is to keep a 16 year old Z3 on the road.To that end,I use this Forum for advice and to buy bits and bobs.I'm not really looking for meets and a social slant.I fully respect the view of Huntert but it's not one I share. This forum suits my needs more than any other I've found. Our Zed isn't the best looking, isn't the best equipped but is well maintained and slowly being improved. There are guys on this forum who've been of great help with issues we've had with the car and this forum has been the link to their knowledge.Long may it continue.

Its not a question of best or worst. I simply stated that the social side of the z4 forum was more active than on here. Its a fact. If you look at the number of topics going and the number of contributors. The busiest two forums on here are the z3 and the stock exchange..which is the technical side. This isnt a bad thing, its just how it is. There are a few guys on here that are really active on all the threads, southernboy for example who i feel is the sort who make the form a community...the site could do with more like him. He actively contributes to most threads even if its just to share an opinion. You may think im wrong but its just how i feel. Id like to see more folk getting involved in more threads not just the ones that directly effect them or just to get help on a technical issue or to sell or buy something.

I have been an active member on both this and .org forums, but recently i have hardly posted due to working longer hours due to work being excessive the last 6 months. But i have to agree with what Huntert is getting at. The community side of this site has drifted away to what it used to be and to be honest that happened in December 2011 due to a mixture of things. Some dedicated members sold there zeds and moved to other sites but do still come on here occasionally and the problems the site had during that month. .org is predominantly 6 to 10 active members who post regularly. To be fair what goes on at each site depends on what is happening and with whom. .org are sorting out a couple of things for next year hence volume of traffic going on at the moment as that then encourages other off topic posts.
I am not as active at the moment due to not being able to make any of the meets planned for next year as they fall when i am on Holidays, so at the moment there is nothing for me to comment on and i feel a few members will be like me. If it doesn't affect them then they wont want to encroach on a topic.
That is just my opinion and is not meant as anything more.

Guys, I've had to look up the dictionary definition of community as I'm not the brightest penny.I quote,"a group of people, with a common purpose, helping each other",unquote.I've received invaluable help and advice from people on this forum.I've sold very little on the stock exchange and purchased a little more.I've met a couple of guys who were great to talk to and would willingly meet again.Imho, this forum matches the dictionary definition of a community.I think some may prefer it to be more of a social club but I await responses.

I do understand where hunter is coming from but as its already been said, the forum/forums can dry up from time to time..
But that's to be expected.. For as long as this site has been active I'm sure it's happened before.. There won't be many meets this time of year either as weathers predictively crap.. Money is tight..
A lot of people do just use this site for info/help and that's fine.. It's a great source and I have used it from that purpose myself..
The social side/ meets etc are great.. But you do have to make the effort and sometimes arrange your own meets if things look alittle sparse.. Arranging meets yourself can be very rewarding but you must understand sometimes they won't come through.. as people may not make dates, find it too far etc.. It's pot luck when arranging meets but even if there's only two or three of you it can still be a great day..

If you want to chat/talk about things your interested in hunter then you have to start your own threads...

Have you your own progress thread?

It is coming up to Christmas though so a lot of people are away doing things and not online... being mostly men on here I'm sure most are all up town getting there last Minuit Christmas shopping in...

Well said Liam :thumb:

I'm sure there will be some meets, my intention is to attend a few of the smaller meets when possible next year, need to blow the cobwebs off :D
