THIS IS TEMPTING!

Idle chit-chat and banter. Let your hair down, but remember there are kids about!

THIS IS TEMPTING!

Post by John1950 »

Spotted this on E-bay today.

I could be tempted to swap the Zed for this. What do you think?

I does look well cared for but I'm sure you'll miss dropping the roof on the zed. Lots more to go wrong as well with the older electronics.

It's a stunning car... Nice motor, very low mileage, that motor hasn't been run in yet...

Yes, I've watched this a couple of times on the TV.
I've always rather liked them, but is it true, only 15 MPG!! It must be more than that. I was thinking more like 28?

But, yes, once the sun shines, I really would miss the wind in my voluminous silvery locks...

I looked at one of these a few years back when I was looking for a change from from M635. Very nice cars, great looking especially in dark colours. I talked to the lad that does the servicing on my cars and he said maintenance costs could be high, the electricals could be source of problems with things like the pop up headlamps. I steered clear and bought the Z3 MC instead. I don't thing I could take to an auto box on that type of car either. On the other hand a manual 850 could be tempting!! Not many about though.

A lot of car for the money and its the type of buy you will never loose much on if anything.

Many moons ago now I had a 740 of circa the same era and none motorway you will struggle to get over 20mpg, heavy cars.

If this is what you like I think you would struggle to find a better example

It probably drives like an older 5 series though - is this the experience you are looking for?

I had an 850 about ten years ago, and loved every minute. Absolutely lovely motor and obviously distinctive - I'd get people asking me what it was, on a daily basis. Yes, it was my daily driver and I would usually get something like 17, 18 mpg each fill up. I went to Scotland a few times in it and got about 25 on the motorway. I really regretted getting rid of it, but I had a BMW mechanic say to me "That could cost you £10k tomorrow", for the simple reason that there were so many things could go wrong big time. Still want to get another one, though.

I have an element of 'M-styling' on my car, If that's a good enough reason for the manufacturers to adorn a 320 with the M badge, then its certainly a good enough reason for me..

Oddly enough, it cost £10k, and I eventually sold it for £10k. So if there was the potential of a £10k bill leaping out at me, I would have been brave to ignore it. Call me sad if you want, but at the end of the day we all make decisions on the basis of the information available to us. Don't know if the next decision was good or bad. Bought a 330ci, brilliant car, had it 12 months and lost £10k in depreciation when I traded it against my M Coupe. That was about eight years ago and I'd have to say that this was one of my better decisions.
