No return for May without Clarkson but...
Look who's front runner to replace him...
According to bookmakers, Great British Bake Off host Sue Perkins is front-runner to take over from Clarkson on Top Gear, with Dermot O'Leary, Chris Evans and Jodie Kidd also in the running.

Re: No return for May without Clarkson but...
There was a clip on sky news this week that said the missing episodes will be shown later this year but without JC.... linked to it was a comment from the telegraph that said his replacement HAD to be a woman.... written by a woman.
Now I am by no mean sexist and I am obviously likely to find a woman more attractive than Jezza but really... a woman... just because ?? Personally I can't wait till C4 sign the 3 of them up and let us watch TV without having to be nanny watched the do-gooder, tree hugging "Angry from grimsby" types.

Consensus on PH seems to think it will be Netflix, because there are no advertisers to upset .
Makes sense to me.

Has anyone any ideas why Tim Shaw from Car S.O.S. is not in the running or even mentioned?.........I think he'd be an ideal fit due to his sense of humour

You view it differently to me then....TWO wrote:Has anyone any ideas why Tim Shaw from Car S.O.S. is not in the running or even mentioned?.........I think he'd be an ideal fit due to his sense of humour
I find him as funny as any of those 'comedians' called Russell, and equally as charismatic as Philip Glenister...

I have an element of 'M-styling' on my car, If that's a good enough reason for the manufacturers to adorn a 320 with the M badge, then its certainly a good enough reason for me..

I wouldn't mind seeing petrol head Jay Kay from Jamiroquai take on the role

I like the idea of a woman replacement as much as I like women cricket commentators, women's rugby, and women fighter pilots..... they're forever "breaking a nail" or getting their heels stuck in the floor carpets....
Re: No return for May without Clarkson but...
It's never going to happen, but what will happen, as suggested in the Times today, is the three will be back together - perhaps even on the BBC - doing something like Not Gear Even Andy Wilman has left so that is essentially Top Gear production over.
Guy Martin as good as he is, is not a presenter and wouldn't be able to carry it. His shows are brilliant though.

You share the same thoughts I have. IMHO it comes down to charisma and theres few people who have the charisma of the 3 current ones, especially none of the other people from any other motoring show. The only one I do enjoy watching without cringing is Ant Anstead off "for the love of cars"...

Re: No return for May without Clarkson but...
I think Philip Glenister with Tim Shaw and Guy Martin would possibly reignite the show.
Re: No return for May without Clarkson but...
That sounds like a recipe for an obscure cable channel.
Re: No return for May without Clarkson but...
The show won't be the same without the main guys. I wonder if it will be any good.
My thoughts for a replacement is Tiff Needle or/and Jason Plato.

I reckon Clarkson has passed his sell by date - and to retain the other two with a newbie "Clarkson" would be a failure based on the past and viewer "expectations". Youngsters wouldn't cut it since IMO it was more an "adult" show than anything aimed at the "boy / girl" market.
Clarkson was a old fart who simply couldn't grow up, and that was the attraction. He symbolised the "youngster" in all of us when we get behind the wheel....

I agree that Clarkson was most of the draw. The 3 of them fed off of each other very well. That's what made it such a good show.
I will give the new show a chance, but it will always be compared to the original. The US version is ok. I have seen the AU show. Those guys are pretty good together.
Thanks for the welcome Barry.
