BMW E36 stock exhaust or...?

Post by Inferno »

Apart from the Z3, i also drive a E36 Cabrio 318, i sent it today to the mechanic for a service, and it appears that the whole exhaust system needs replacement, and i mean all the system, pipes, catalyst, back box. BMW price for OEM is 1300€. I called an exhaust shop i work with on the Z3, and they want 300-400€ for handmade parts. Thoughts?

Sounds like a no brainer to me. Make sure you inform your insurer

yes i know, easy pick, but quality? is this something BMW overcharges or it's something that you get what you pay for?

It depends who is doing your exhaust work. A stainless exhaust will cost less than one and should last the lifetime of the car. They should also be able to give you a preferred sound

BMW always charge over the odds for stuff like this in my opinion. The aftermarket one will be fine and hey, even if it only lasts half as long - that's 6/7 years? At qtr the price you will break even after 4 exhausts and 28 years!
