I replaced my Zed with....

Post by garyw »

As some may know, during November I went to Germany to collect my new car. Having sadly moved away from BMW a few years ago (the Z4coupe wasn't even heard of at the time).
I toured Europe on the way back via Luxembourg, and Bruge, with a stop off at a certain toll road... I'll write the full story up one day, but heres a few pictures from the trip.
Thank you for looking

Nice car (goes without saying :D ). Is the plate just a temporary one, or could you have kept it?

I do have a sun roof
In the pictures the car is on German transit plates, part of the factory collection is they give you 9 days insurance to get home with... when I say"give"
The car is now on my own plate and they even let me keep the plates as seen here, which is nice memorabilia.
Was good fun on the tunnel with a couple of English guys talking quite loudly, questioning where the car/owner was from...
The M20 and M25 were even quite enjoyable with the cars getting out of the way for the 'crazy german driver'

Beautiful car and nice pics. Good to see the local "blue van man" giving way to a superior motor. Nice touch that :P

Gary,

That is gorgeous! A real thing of beauty. Love the colour. Reminds me of Dad's old Dolphin Grey E30 325i Sport. :P

Gorgeous car mate - like Gary (thefish) says - it looks even better in flesh! Love the wheels!

Question is would you swap it for a Z4Coupe? 3.0si or M? Honestly?

Beautiful car!!!!
The best make in the world!
I would not even bother to compare it with anything that BMW currently makes.
Had I not taken a pay cut I would not have sold my 993, and ended up with a Z1.

I have to say,

I always loved the look of a Porsche right from being a babe in arms

But in the 80's there were some real Terence Ossers driving them and it put me right off :(

But I have to say Garyw yours is beautifully understated and crafted.
Great subtle colour ............ i.e not 'Look at my k--b black' or dazzle me orange etc............... with no silly spoilers etc.............

If I were to be swept away by a rich man then I would have one as well as my Zed  I think my husband might object to that though  )

Cheers P

The car is a 911Turbo (type997) It was a newly launched colour called Meteor grey (I hadn't seen it when I first ordered it :| ) Interior is a bit grown up  , as in Cocoa with aluminium options.
I did have a black one before this one  but I know what you mean about the 80's sensation... there's a few of them left.
It does have a rear spoiler, which is why you may notice I keep a little quiet when we get all excited about them on the 'tuned' Zeds

Its a manual as I preferred the feel and control, I'm certainly not against the tip and having owned a tip previously I can say they are very, very good
Short shift and a few internal additions make up the car.
I took an option of sports chrono which adds overboost to the car for an additional 10seconds of overboost (think nightrider  ) it adds another 50lb torque to the 600 usually available.
I didn't go for ceramic brakes due to failures being so common and costly to replace, the cost has dropped significantly to 1K a corner!!!
Manual makes it a bit slower at 3.9sec :colourful: Some people were disappointed that it didn't break the 500bhp figure (480bhp) but to be fair, its how quickly it gets the power down that does make the difference.

I have the Van for work and the wife's oil burner for an everyday runabout, so really the car only comes out to play at the moment. However on my previous two cars I've managed to triple the average porker mileage and rack the miles up.
It didn't really help putting 900 miles on it with the collection from Germany :head: I've already tripled the average Porche mileage which is around 600 per month..... :shake:
I bought it to use it and those who know me, know I use it... :D
Thanks for your comment guys...

Gary's 'black one' was stunning IMHO and very very rapid too, seeing a figure close to some of the tuned 911's at a Pistonheads V Max day at Bruntingthorpe not too long ago. It also swallowed more than you'd think on a couple of trips to Le Mans and managed to keep up with the Z very well

Can't wait to see the new one up close & personal and I am still waiting to see the video of masterful car control on the skid pan at Prodrive Gary :D

From what I've already seen and heard of the 997TT, it is a storming car. Congrats again, [python mode]you lucky lucky bar$tard[/python mode]

Nice motor.

Always had a soft spot for porkers, it's next on my list when I get bored of the zed (i.e. in about 2011).
