Love the interior, saw an ///MR the same as my old one with this. Shame the seatbelt retainer is broken.

Thanks, the retainer clips into place but seems to have a mind of it's own! Any easy fixes? Or new retainers?

Exterior looks equally good by the way.

I understand those clips are a b1tch to replace, seat apart job so better off not bothering. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than me will be along shortly.

I'm not too worried about them tbh, I checked them after reading your first comment... I guess I must've knocked them when applying shampoo/conditioner to the leather earlier this afternoon!

I spent most of the day cleaning up the engine bay, it had 8 years of road grime sat across it!! Now it's up to standard it should be a doddle to maintain :P

A very 'Individual' car.

Interior colour is stunning

Looks very nice. One suggestion though, dont mix brand of tyres. Get a set of eagle f1's on the front as well as the rears, and you'll have no probs. Having had mixed brands of tyres on my last Z, I can tell you that you don't want yours to end up the same

Very nice example :)

Lovely Zed. Love that interior.

Its so special when you have an individual level of spec on the car.

Enjoy!

You're right, one is odd... the previous owner seemed to always spend out on Eagle F1's so I'm confused why one day he chose a budget tyre :?

It's another thing to add my list of problems I guess!!

Nice car....

Post by namatjira »

With the odd tyre, perhaps the tyre dealer did not have the correct one in stock and the vehicle was required immediately. Still he should have corrected it as soon as possible.

While it is best to have the same tyres all round the most important thing is that you have the same tyres on the same end of the car, both the same at the front and both the same at the rear. If your car is high performance then it will make a difference between front and rear also. If you have different tyres on one axle then you will get different road handling left to right as the tyre compound and tread patterns give different feedback and this is very dangerous. The cops will pick this up if you ever get stopped and they look. If you have different tyres front and rear but they are the same on each side, you may experience greater of lesser understeer or oversteer but it is unlikely to be as much of a problem unless you are used to pushing the vehicle hard. While the cops may comments about a front rear difference they will not ticket you for it.

On the seat belt retainer clip, I have this problem also and bought a new clip from the local $tealer. As yet I have not put it on as you have to remove the seat entirely, then remove the seat cover, install the clip and then put it all back together again. Clearly this is not a small job and so I guess I am waiting for a summer weekend with nothing to do ;-) What I can say is that they become fragile with the sun baking the plastic so I wish they had designed the replacement to be more convenient.

Anyway, nice car and individual too. Enjoy.....
Now with both the 411 bhp Supercharged Z3MR and a WRX STi Wagon getting a 3.4 litre transplant and an XKR with mods planned.

Fast is good, faster is better. Wheeeeee !!!

Thanks, I plan to attend some meets! I don't suppose anyone will be attending the Hestercombe BMWCC show next month? I did run a search for SW meets, with little success!!
maxman wrote:A cracking Z that will stand out in any company.Did you find it by chance or did you seek one out .
I'd love to say I sought it out, but sadly that wasn't the case! I sold my previous car (Click for details) after getting numerous features and trophies and running out of things to do! I looked at Audi S3's and TT's, 330ci's and then decided to browse some Z3's! I'd always had a soft spot for them... as with the few cars I've owned since I started driving, everything seemed to fall into place. I'd become a BMW enthusiast at heart and have since wanted an individual model with a decent spec and low mileage... within a week or so, I had bought such a car and parked it in it's new home 8-)

I have a few plans for the car, but ultimately I just want to drive it! Still, I did spend this evening taking apart all the centre console... I hate seeing a mess of wires, especially after only a weeks ownership, but in a couple weeks when I put it back together it should look a whole lot better  :D

Saltash, Cornwall... not a million miles away from Minehead... there are occasional dartmoor meets that bring together E30/E36/8-series owners etc, if we struggle to find Z3 numbers I'm sure we could tag along to their next meet! I've been to a fair few in the past!

Interior Makeover - Part 1
Stripping the centre console - 20/04/2008

Image

Having owned the Z3 for 2 weeks now, it was time to make the most of the overcast, yet dry weather.

I managed to wash, clay bar, polish and wax the entire car. I knew the car was in deperate need of a cleansing session, and the clay bar really proved that.

I also purchased an autoglym roof maintenance kit, I had been dying to use this since I got the car, so I'm glad the day stayed dry long enough for me to do the job!

As I finished doing the glass and exhaust the heavens openned, so my hopes of another nice shoot evolved into some interior fiddling...

Image

More on this later

Until then, here's some of the beeding...

Thanks guys, the work was carried out by a friend I met through the E36 community with my previous car. He's utterly mastered the art of carbon wrapping, many have tried to do similar efforts but from their comments... it really isn't an easy thing to perfect!

Interior Makeover - Part 3
Carbon Fibre Centre Console - 26/04/2008

Image

Today I had chance to refit the centre console, it was almost straight forward; where the resin had sank into switch/dial recesses I had to carefully file the edges to allow correct fitment. This took a while but I've managed to achieve a factory finish once again! It's just a sad thought that I'll have to remove it all again soon to fit my leather trimmed boomerang's when they arrive from the US!

Absolutely stunning,

I looked at some Zeds with multicoloured leather interiors and they look so smart.

Just wish I had the time to do something with mine.

Good job

Maintenance
MOT - 12/05/2008

Image

I had my car booked in for MOT, thankfully it passed straight through! Advisory sheet indicated the following:-

- Rear indicator bulbs losing colour - Replaced
- Small chip outside of drivers view in windscreen - Needs filling
- Greater wear on o/s/f tyre, recommend tracking - Tracking carried out

Interior Makeover - Part 5
I Bit the Billet - 24/05/2008

Image

I decided to replace my chrome gearknob with something a little nicer, a Storm Motorwerks V1 shifter! I had this in the titanium finish on my E36 so know how nice it feels and am looking forward to the enhanced shift from the +0.5kg knob. I chose the regular billet stainless finish in hope that it'll better suit the Z3 interior with it's splashes of chrome.

Image

To compliment this I also purchased a Storm Motorwerks billet stainless cigarette lighter plug.

Fitted pics:-
(excuse the yellow appearance of the leather *cheap camera alert*)

Exterior Makeover - Part 1
Black Tonneau Cover - 24/05/2008

I hated the unfinished look of the car with the roof down, as a result a Black tonneau cover had to be purchased (especially with all the recent sunshine). The lines of the car look much cleaner while it's fitted! 8-) Also note the Honda Civic Type R stub aerial.

Lowering Springs - 30/06/2008

The car felt a little too high considering it's apparent Sports Car title! Although coilovers are planned, at present they're further down the priority list. Until then, I will make do with a set of lowering springs to improve the stance temporarily. Not the best of photos but it'll have to do for now!

Exterior Makeover - Part 3a
AC Schnitzer Type 1 Racing - 05/07/2008

The long search for the right set of wheels finally came to an end on Thursday evening! Today I took a long trip from Cornwall to London and picked up a 2nd hand set of 18" AC Schnitzer Type 1 3-piece split rims, not the Hartge Design E's I was hoping for, but none the less a great wheel!

I believe the rears are 9J ET38 and the fronts 8.5J ET38, unfortunately the fronts are meant to be fitted with 7mm hubcentric spacers. This is because the wheels were originally purchased for an E36 M3, the spacers would've been necessary to prevent the wheel from fouling the brake caliper. As I don't have this problem I don't want the spacer, however without it the front wheels remain non-hubcentric. As a result I have removed the wheels until I can call Rossiters on Monday and order some spigot rings. The dishes are all tarnished, some more than others, likewise there are various degrees of kerb rash. My intentions are to split the wheels, replace all the bolts with gold alternatives, respray the centres in high power silver, the inners in gloss black and fit new stainless/wider dishes to both front and rear. This'll be a gradual build over the winter nights... I can't wait!

Exterior Makeover - Part 3b
AC Schnitzer Type 1 Racing - 05/07/2008

Rossiters managed to supply me with a pair of ACS spigot rings (72.5mm ID/82mm OD), meaning the wheels fitted hubcentric onto the front! As a result I thought it'd be rude not to clean them up a little and take a few photos! You'll notice the scuff on the front bumper, mostly as it's full of polish... that'll be the next thing to sort out

More leather comes in the form of these OEM grab handles, a rare option on the Z3...

lowering

Post by adam666999 »

hi mate just a quick question.... i have put on some berelli 18" wheeels running 255/35/18 rears and 225/40/18 fronts.. and was thinking it needs to be lowered and was thinking about the same jamex spring setup you have, the main question is does it rub at all over bumps or full lock, and the second query is that mine is 1.9 prefacelift will that make any difference if i was to get it lowered??

With those tyres, it'll rub at the front and might be very close to your strut (so check for clearance). Back should be fine. I have 15mm spacers with the same size tyres (Alpina cotton reels) with no issues, even fully laden. I am running stock suspension again at the moment though.

Exterior Makeover - Part 4
J'adore French Fogs - 20/08/2008

Image

In a bid to follow the euro trend with my Z3 I decided to go to work on the foglights! I contacted the US firm Lamin-X with regard to precut coloured adhesive laminate, within a week the postman came knocking! I'm very impressed with the product and even more so with the service.

After removing the foglights and applying the film, I thought it'd be a nice touch to update the fog light access covers. Being black plastic I contemplated getting them colour coded; but in the end I settled with carbon wrapping them...

Performance/ Engine Cosmetics - Part 1
Gruppe M Replica - 25/08/2008

Image

Due to serious withdrawal symptoms over the noise of my previous car, I decided to purchase another Gruppe M Replica induction kit. I sourced one second hand and had to trim the metal sleeve and carbon shroud to fit the Z3, in all I think I did a very tidy job, coupled with a new blue silicon hose to replace the black split one that came with the kit and a set of new jubilee clips I'm more than happy...

Performance/ Engine Cosmetics - Part 2
Magpie - 28/08/2008

Image

Being a bit of a magpie, I decided to fit some parts I'd kept my mitts on following the sale of my E36:

Mirage Stainless service inspection cap cover
Mirage Stainless brake fluid reservoir cover
Mirage Stainless brake fluid reservoir cap cover
Mirage Stainless header tank cap cover

In addition, to compliment the blue hose I fitted a blue citroen washer cap!
