Naeem's Z3 Journal-04/07 Z3M console and SM goodies :)

Post by Naeem.m »

Hi Guys

Finally got my pictures up on photobucket and so testing it out for the first time. hope it works

Well since ive brought my Z3 i wanted to start personalising it,in a tasteful way.
!st mod - centre console from black to alluminium.somehow i managed to do it and i think it looks great. please check out the picks. i dont have step by step pics but some rough shots of the stages....
i did refer to the guide which is in the knowledge base but you can skip a stage on there which is to remove the 2 screws which are at each side of the stereo gap insde which are facing the other way around.....if anyone needs some help if they ever remove there centre console then give me a shout. id more than happy to give you some help....(cheeky)...but really am quite proud that i managed to do it.......

thank you to Chris (Yalden) for giving me some good advice...
a few step by step pics

and now fitted

Next
I really liked the Ac Schnitzer exhaust ends which yalden has on his car. I spotted a rare set for sale on ebay. and Managed to get carried away with the bidding. They are genuine so really wanted them. They came in the post days later and i was quite suprised by the weight of the pipes, but really was chuffed. I spoke to chris (yalden) for some fitting advice and with a little patience i managed to get them to sit right (in the inner one was a problem as the exhaust valve was getting in the way) but got it to match up to the outer.
I must say i was quite unsure when i first saw them on but really love the look now.

I then managed to find some Z3M all black seats. Picked them up after short drive to walsall and was so excited when i saw them in the flesh. The condition of them was great. hardly any wear on them . Just need a good clean. got them home and fitted them in later that week. wiring was abit of a problem as the connectors were different on the existing cloth seats but managed to get some new connector blocks and hook them up. they are heated but of course i need the switches to get them going ready for the winter. The matching door cards were not available so i took my car to Auto-trim In Leicester and got a little creative. Gavin there agreed with the design choice and so he went ahead and created my door cards in black nappa leather. The stitching is something ive admired in many other cars ie alfa's, lexus is and a few others so i really wanted the look in my Z3. what do you guys think

and so that is all for now.
in search for some decently priced springs to get the car to sit lower,ACS going is great ive heard bit abit too much for me to pay at present.looking at jamex 45mm front and 30mm rear. great price of £75 delivered. some wheel spacers are needed and getting me that simota induction kit. (please check stock exchange, as considering a group buy)

here are a quick few shots of the car detailed and waxed up with Meguiars Step1, 2 x Nxt Polish and Meguiars step 3.

i actually like this one so put it in again

Anyway will keep you up to date with the rest and will have new pics up when other changes done.

Ciao for now

I finally hunted down a Simota Induction kit for the Z. Checked the models out there and thought that the Simota for the M52 engine (320, 323 , 325, * 328) in the E46, would fit mine.. I know quite a few of you out there are and were abit in the dark as to if you could get a simota for a 2.0. well you can . so long as it been made for an M52 engine which is on the E36 and E46 it will fit. It came in the post yesterday. I was at work all day checking Dhl for confirmation of delivery and then at 3:30pm i saw DELIVERED. so i ran home early from work and saw a big box in the hallway . I took it out and i had the biggest grin on my face. I was praying my pants off that it would fit and it did. Took off the old box and the Simota fit straight on. The scilicone hose was a little short so i ran to GRAHAM GOODE in leicester and picked up an 80mm today and fit it one properly.Even the securing arm fit perfectly. Here are some pics below.
Image
Image
know the engine bay does need a really good clean i promise i'll do it!

i know many say it wont do much for performance but on mine i can certainly say it has. The Z revs alot more freely and it really does pull alot better now throughout all the rev range. It sounds lovely even at 2000rpm and then putting your foot down it sounds really cool at 4000-5000rpm. the pick up at higher speeds (50 - 80mph) is greatly improved. Overall the engines breathing alot better. So im chuffed to bits.

My Eibachs which i won will be delivered next week so cant wait to put those on. Will have pics up soon.
Bye for now :D

Looking good matey, I'm glad yours fitted directly!

Now watch your fuel bills increase... the sound of the Simota can easily tempt you to race through the gears a little quicker than usual

Imo this is one of the best mods for any 6-cyl BMW.

A guy was selling it on ebay.i offered him a buy it now and he accepted..it came off his 325 e46..the cheapest brand new one on the net is for £195..they sell many for the e36 and e46 but not specifically for the z3...
Was wondering..could i clean the simota filter element with the K n N recharge kit..i wasnt sure because i thought the simota filter isnt oil charged..anyone know?

I'm unsure, mine isn't a simota branded version, just the regular Gruppe M Replica - I use my K&N cleaning kit on the Jamex filter...

Im sure i read somewhere that the simota filter is not oiled..so was thinking of just using the cleaner for the K&N kit n leaving the oil recharger..but want to make sure...
By the way and did my reverse lights too..liked your look yalden so thought id get some lamin-x on them..:-D

HI guys
Just thought id give you an update. Have just booked my car in for the 26/09 to have the eibach springs fitted and the Earls Clutch Hose. Read up on the hose and seems like a very cheap and affective upgrade and might aswell get it done as its going in for the springs anyway.

LEXX on the forum did report that the Eibachs did greatly improve tramlining so im hoping it does the job for me.
Im only sitting on standard star spoke 16's at the moment but im hoping to find some temp wheels to pop on so it looks decent when lowered.

17 or 18 with tyres is what im after. Have been searching ebay and not much that looks decent or takes my fancy but then again im not looking to pay more than around £250 so i am limited. Will continue searching. :(

Will post before and after pics up soon. Look forward to hopefully a meaner stance 8-)

I did see these a like them alot. but after i get the tyres on there its just going to be too much. I want to stick to budget on these temp ones but have got my eye out for some Z4M wheels or i like the Breyton River spirit or mesh. some going on ebay but i will have to hold out abit longer before spending more on a good set,Z4M wheels i like alot on the Z3. spotted one guys car with them on and love the look.so im hoping to get them towards the start of next year if and when i spot some for sale. Missed out on some on here a few months ago :(
but these do look cool. 8-)

Hi Guys

Thought id give you an update of the recent mods ive carried out to my Z.
Firstly i had to return the earls hose as it was the correct fitting after the mechanic checked it. I received a female/female connector hose from earls but its seems the 2.0 Z3 needs a male/female...i spoke to i think john at earls and i will be getting some pics to him soon so he can see if they can make something.

But on a brighter note i got the Eibach Springs fitted 30mm/30mm and i love the look now. It has reduce tramling by around 80% id say which has made a great improvement. Here are some before pics
Image
Image

and some after pics

Image
Image

i just needs some wheels now which hopefully i will be getting next weekend. so i have put my current wheels up for sale if anyone is interested.

Next i became the cleverest guy in the world and put my hood down first thing on a cold morning. and i heard a big snap. Pop the roof back up and a good 9inch crack was there to greet me.so i taped it up and took it toa guy in loughborough. He had aftermarket windows for £150 fitted but he a genuine BMW one which was £200 fitted so went for that.
here are the before and after pics

Image

and now the new one is on

Image

let me know if any of you guys want the details for the guy in loughborough. great guy and only took 30mins to fit.

next i wanted something for long time. the v1 storm motorwerks gear knob after seeing yaldens...i do like it alot. but then i saw the v2 which i also liked as it maintains the retro look of the cabin. its the same height and only weighs 60grams less than the v1. so i got it delivered and love the finished look..the gear change is so much more smoother and it feels great..

here are the pics

Image
Image
Image

so guys...hope you like what ive done so far..i will be hopefully putting the wheels on next weekend if i get them and next month have a little surprise hopefully. so looking forward to that.

cheers

Naeem.m I particularly like the matt aluminium console panel. The most annoying thing about the interior of my Z is that amateurish looking 'scratched ally foil' look of the OEM panel. I wish I had the skill and patience to do the same. Well done! By the way, the car looks superb - there are few cars that don't look best in black. :thumb:

Glad those springs were right for your car, the set up looks great. Good luck on the wheel hunt, there's always something out there, I keep looking at the z3m wheels (5 spoke) that come on the ///M and the ///M coupe but I just love the 19's. Although my arches are screaming out for smaller wheels!

Nice car Naeem, keep up the modding!

That is the OEM panels in the pic's, so you must have aftermarket if it looks like a brushed finish.

Hi Guys

Many thanks for the nice comments..
I do like the stance more now but the rear wheels are a little buried in the aches around 20-25mm so anyone looking to do this will need spacers

i have just brought myself some alloys which are 18x 8.5j with a smaller offset which will hopefully rectify this...will be picking them up on friday. so will have pics up soon. They arnt the Z4m alloys i was hoping for but just some decent ones i liked which will hopfully last me a while.. and help the Z look its best for now

the aluminium dash i have is OEM and i believe the brushed ally one is too as i have seen these in other Z3's.
it was a little fiddly to fit but im happy with the result.

i want to get the major changes done first. Alloys, Hardtop and some body parts which i will be getting in NOV..really looking forward to that.

so things like M mirrors and side gills will come after.

cheers

hi guys
i finally managed to find me some decent wheels. I picked them up on friday and popped them on when i got home. They were already balanced so no problems there. I have liked the design of these for a while , even though these are replicas i do still think they have a good look.
They are all 8.5jx18. all on 225-40-18's.
the rear 2 are eagle F1's brand new and front are dunlop sport.but i will be having the dunlops changed to F1 or similar 255-35-18 in a few weeks and swapping around so they are at the rear.
i manged to get a quick few dirty shots of them on without the centre caps. i have ordered some and will be coming hopefully this week,,damn postal strike.. :head:...they are like brand new and have no marks wahtsoever on the wheels.they have a 1.5inch lip which looks cool imo.
camera is cheap so not the best quality pics. will have some proper ones up soon.
so......what do you guys think? :)

Where are you getting the centre caps from Naeem.m and what sort are you getting (ACS or BMW)?

The acs ones are available here

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWAX:IT

(not cheap mind  ), but given naeem's are reps they may be a different diameter??

I've seen them before and was hoping that naeem had found another source as £50 seems a bit steep for centres. My ACS wheels are going into the the Wheel Repair Centre in Preston for a full refurb in a couple of weeks so I'm on the lookout for some new centres (at the moment I'm considering getting them to refurb the existing centres and then get some ACS vinyl decals made to fit)

i love the ones you have posted Lee but think is the reps have a strange 60mm centre cap size. quite annoying really as the only option for schnitzer was to buy plain caps and have the round schnitzer emblems stuck on...so i had to get the bmw ones.
even these were hard to find in 60mm. but i saw these and thought i just get them for now.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWAX:IT

i dont think you can get genuine ones in 60mm. do they even exist :?
i really wanted schnitzer ones though. any suggestions?

Thats where I got mine refurbed, they made a great job but be prepared to see the timescale increase!! What should have been a week turnaround turned into 3 weeks for me.

I would strongly recommend leaving your wheels and not your car (there is a drive in option) as the cars I saw there were not covered and only feet away from the spray booths and they were very very dusty.

Cant fault the finish of my wheels though, having said that it was nearly £100 a corner

Looks good, I think five spokes really suite the Zed and ACS design some of the best, I just wish I could find a staggered 17'' split rim set that wasn't for a 5 series or E30 M3 their like rocking horse poo.

Let us know how it handles, I've heard that 8.5'' rims on the front can make the tramlineing problem worse.

Looking great, much better lowered :)

I recently changed the centre caps from the old style BMW to the new style with chrome edging but I'm not sure they actually look any better  as the new style don't fill the little groove around the hole like the old style.

Hi Guys

took it for a good run last night and the handle is pretty much the same. The eibachs originally improved the tramlining quite alot so its still doing a good job..

Gookah - the last time i put my hood down in the cold weather the window snapped so will be more careful. But i do want to get some nice shots done in a scenic location...watch this space.

yalden - i took your advise on the bumper and will be making some major purchases in a few weeks. can't wait. it will look more like yours but your wheels do look the business.

ive got a civic stubby aerial coming my way and looking forward to the wheel caps as it will finish the wheels off..

i am still in need of the all important hardtop and if any of you guys out there have or know anyone who has any aerodynamic package parts. do let me know..

look great :D can't beat Schnitzers on a Z in my opinion!! Best bet for centre caps are direct from Rossiters, I'v had a couple of sets over the last year or so, cost about £24 a set :)

Hi guys.
Back after a long time off from modifying my Z3.
Just wanted to carry on where I left off, so ordered some goodies.
1st on the list was M Mirrors which came in the post today. Had a bit of a panic attack ( see z3 knowledge base)
2nd on the list was the aerodynamic rear bumper and side skirts.
Bumper I received last week and hoping to Receive side skirts this week. All 3 will be handed in to have sprayed on Friday and so I'll spend Sunday fitting them on.
Here are the pics of the mirrors.
Still need to take some of the bumper so will have them all up before they go in for spraying.
Really looking forward to the end result.

Mind the groovy 80s bedsheets

looks like you got those mirrors from same place as me, one bit of advice is there are 2 glass mirrors in the box one labelled FLAT and the other CONVEX. i put the convex on the drivers door and the flat on the passenger. but if i was you before fitting them i would buy another convex for the passenger door as the flat ones are a waste of time, you cant anything. they are available ebay. as once you have clipped the glass flat one onto the motor there is a risk you might not get it off without breaking one of the motor clips. im going to get another convex mirror and hope i get the flat one off ok.
hope this helps,
ps your zed's looking mighty fine
