Hi,
Recently purchased a Silver 98 Z3 and looking to upgrade the alloys.
Really not sure what to get - I think I prefer 18" and ideally OEM but the jury is out !
Post up your alloys to help me please.

No discernible difference in the price as far as I can tell. The only stipulation is that they won't replace the aftermarket wheels; they pay the replacement cost of the originalsALM wrote:Redzed,

And mine, Breyton Magic Racing 18" 2 piece rims. Note that the ///M's have a weird rear offset of 8 allowing the much deeper dish than you can get away with on a non ///M. I think 18" are perfect for the Z's though, 19" can look great but for me look a little too big and have been reported as adversley affecting ride quality a little too much.
nb. lowered suspension also makes a big differnce with how the wheels sit in the arch. Also its pretty normal for people to fit 10-15mm spacers on the rears of the wide bodied cars to get flush with the outer arch.

Here are mine.... Copy Alpinas.....as real ones are stooopid money....you can spot them as the Valve is inside the Centre cap and must fill the wheel via a hollow spoke - very cool.
A nightmare to clean though

I know, and maybe 15mm offset at the back too.
All on the to-do list...

W4LKR, I love those wheels every time I see them on 321's. They look great on an ///M, wish I could have seen them last weekend
How do you find the ride around Cheshire on 19"'s ?
I'm really surprised how well my 18" ride (on ACS sport supsension) I thought the setup would be a lot harder and jittery on A roads but not too bad at all.
Would be interesting to hear how the 19" are on (guessing) standard ///M suspension ? (ps I'd ask 321 put its hard for him to tell on 200 miles pa )

I loved the Z and I got offered my old car back so initaily i was selling to fund that. Then that all changed and I decided it just wasn't the best BMW i have ever owned, as lovely as it was. It was just a bit noisy and the quality didnt seem to be all there in parts. I drove the car everyday it just was a bit impratical i guess So i fixed her welding and sold it on
Looking for a e46 M3 now, boot space at last lol

Look even better in the flesh, was dead set on keeping my standard S50 alloys and refurbing, but after seeing these serious considering getting a set as seem to be good value from the figures W4LKR quotted. wouldnt mind further details or web address W4LKR.[/quote]W4LKR, I love those wheels every time I see them on 321's. Cheers for the comment, the ride quality is spot on, didn't notice any difference really, thought that the ride would be harder but its not.Jonttt wrote:W4LKR, I love those wheels every time I see them on 321's. They look great on an ///M, wish I could have seen them last weekend

The suspension is standard and I think they sit quite well .

Hi, I bought them from DP-Motorsport (they are based in Scotland) I think the code for them is Cruize 134 (but I will check), they sell on Ebay also. I bought mine with Avon ZZ3, if you do get a set make sure they send the correct offset for your car, the back ones they sent the first time were completely wrong as they were way to far in the wheel arch. However, they did collect and resend the correct ones and gave me a discount for being a member of the forum.
Bumping the thread for winter dreamers.

I have an element of 'M-styling' on my car, If that's a good enough reason for the manufacturers to adorn a 320 with the M badge, then its certainly a good enough reason for me..
Hi

No they're not. 8.5j rims et 35. the car has been lowered somewhat and its not a widebody variant, so i think thats why they site so flush. got a 3mm spacer on the front wheels to clear the bottom of the coilovers.Daz 999 wrote:Mark, those AC Schnitzers type threes look great. Are they staggered?
Still modifying
Very nice... I recall an appreciation thread on Bimmerforums for Rondell 021's; those yanks would die for a staggered set.c_w wrote:Rondell 021

So jealous of you guys who can afford (performance wise) to put 18" rims on your Z3.
With the 1.9 M44 I really think it would be a bad idea to put such large wheels on. The acceleration performance would be even worse than it is on standard 16's i'm guessing.
More noticeable on a humble 4 cyl model imo.

If the the overall circumference of the wheel/tyre combination is the same for 15" and 19" wheels then the gearing (acceleration and speed) will not be affected. The only things that could have an effect are the overall weight impacting innertia and the width of the tyre generating extra friction.
A 225/50/16 is almost identical to a 225/45/17, 225/40/18 and close enough to a 225/35/19 to make no difference.
Have a read of this, especially the section on rolling radius and then use the tyre size calculator. You are not likely to notice any difference at all below 2%, maybe more.
Where larger wheels do compromise you is in ride comfort and your wallet. The tyres are more expensive and less able to withstand potholes. Larger wheels can also affect tramlining (see mutiple threads on this).

Cheers for the info, I remember using that calculator years ago when I had an Escort GTi (Which wasn't chavved up, just wheels, lowering and Recaro seats)
Just going to look for some pre facelift 1.9's with aftermarket wheels now, as most cars in this thread have the wider rear arches from either 2.8's or facelifted models.
