My New Purchase... Dakar S50
My New Purchase... Dakar S50
Hello all,
Allow me to introduce myself and post aup a few pictures of my new purchase. I'm Keith, I'm 26, an electrical engineer, and an all-round BMW nut.
After deciding I wanted something a little more exciting, impractical and ///M powered, I bit the bullet and sold my 330 Clubsport. It was a very hard decision, as I had just got it how I wanted, and I really did love the car. It looked the bomb too, IMO of course!
Clubsport;
Well I posted up on here for some tips and advice about looking for a Z3M (I knew I wanted one) and I received some very helpful replies, so thank you. Now that I've picked my new baby up, Chris (Yalden) said I should post up my new acquisition (even though its a Coupe) as you may be interested, not to mention it seems like a great community for me to become a part of.
Anyway... What can I say. So very raw, noisy and untamed - I love it. I've driven BMWs all my life, but dare I say it, this is already fast becoming my favourite.
Its a 2000, with 2 owners and just 32,000 on the clock.
So here's the pics, after prepping, claying, washing, and finished with 2 coast of Collinite 476s.
Hope you like. Dakar is a bit of a Marmite colour, gracing a Marmite car, so I've had all kinds of reactions so far
Looking forward to spending some time here. From what I've seen so far, its a very useful resource - some of the DIYs are fantastic! Good work.
Cheers,
Keith

Keith, glad you got a great looking car
There are obviously a lot of similarities between the coupe's and roadsters being very similar mechanicals so I'm sure you'll find this forum just as usueful as the coupe forums (there are plenty of cross members )
You should get together with VioletDuck who has just sourced himself a yellow roadster of very similar age
I'm sure you'll enjoy both driving and tinkering and I look forward to hear your exploits

Welcome Keith! I love the coupe, and IMO looks fantastic in Dakar :D.
Thanks Guys, I'm very pleased with her and looking forward to ownership.
Dakar would not have been my first choice I guess, but with such cars (///Ms in particular), condition is more important IMO. It suits the cars character to a T actually - loud, mad and a little bit of a yob
VioletDuck - nice roaster mate! It's funny, whoever has seen the car so far mentiones the colour first, unless they know what it is, in which case they talk about the car, THEN colour

Hey Keith thanks!
I know what you mean about the comments on the colour. I get the same first if they don't know what it is.
I was in a traffic jam outside a building site earlier in the year and a builder shouted 'nice car, does it match your handbag?!' I was a bit pissed off to say the least, but then his co-worker shouted 'don't worry mate, it's a great S50...this c**k doesn't know his arse from his face!!!'
made me almost wet myself at the time...almost the roof was down at the time!
