As promised here are a few pics of our prized Opel GT. I know she's not a Z'd, but I thought you all deserved something racey for the weekend, enjoy :)

Unlike most GT's that would run a 1.9litre, with 102bhp and a 4speed box, this GT runs a 2.5litre (the full spec would bore the hind legs off you all) on mapped fuel injection, a getrag 5 speed, LSD, suspension by Harvey Bailey Engineering and the list goes on.

The pics aren't brill, I'd really like to find someone in the area who'd like to create a portfolio of images.....but for that to happen the 3wk weather forecast needs to say 'no rain'!

Lovely. :thumb:

A mate of mine had a yellow one in the 1980's and that lever for operating the (mechanical) raising and lowering of the headlights always intrigued me.

A very fruity Opel I would say.
Overall very nice, let down a little IMHO by the dashboard and interior. What is that handle in front of the gear lever??

PS It would be a nice run out to Newby Hall for you, in either of your cars!

Hi Mate

What a cracker... a real rarity in lovely condition.

Keep enjoying your car and get yourself into a Z3 for a little roof down motoring when the sun shines.

Cheers :thumb:

WOW ..

WOW WOW WOW....

forget that its not a Z. That car is just stunning !

My lottery dream is to buy a car just like that, strip it back to its shell, strengthen it, treat it. New running gear from a modern car, new str6 or v8 engine and electrics from a modern car. Custom interior and some serious detailing.

I am very. Very VERY jealous of you.

Thanks for all the really postive comments guys :D

I was intrigued about the dash/interior comment though? I'd be interested to know what's not to be liked about a hand stitched leather dash and bespoke leather interior, if you think the seats etc look too light then that's the pic quality as the leather is the same colour as found in most classic Ferrari's.........and no the cars not been built by me to imitate them, though i have a funny story about some really pee'd off Ferrari owners who were parked next to me at Le Mans one year.

As for one thats been treated to something a little more radical how about this....

Do tell... You can't tempt us with all this eye candy, and not share a good story that goes with it 8-)

Seriously, those are nice motors, but as Gary said, you can't just tempt us with the pictures and not tell the full story :!:

Here goes......and remember you had to be there to get the full effect.

In 2005 I decided to rebuild the engine in the GT and treat my father to a trip to Le Mans for his 60th Birthday. The engine rebuild went from being straight forward to something altogether more larey and was eventually completed on the Tuesday before Le Mans.

My father travelled over from Germany to Cambridge and on the Thursday we set off for Dover. I'd always heard that the drive down is a real car freaks paradise and on joining the M25 I found out why, classic and sports car everywhere......BRILLIANT.

We arrived down in Dover and apart from the odd holiday maker the ferry port was awash with Morgans, Porsches, Caterhams, Ferrari's, Lambos, Nobles, Maseratis, MG's etc and one Opel GT! At the check-in point we were advised to go to Row 1 and on looking in my rear view mirror I saw a red Ferrari 348, red Ferrari 308, red Ferrari 308, red Ferrari 360 and Orange Lambo Murcielago.

I jumped out of the GT, desperate to visit the little boys room, and sprinted off. A couple of minutes later i walked out of the service area and couldn't see the GT anywhere, so tried to use the reference of the orange Lambo to get my bearings......I couldn't see the Lambo either!

I did however calm down as i could see the 4 Ferrari's and at either end of the 4 car red cars could see a crowd of people around 2 other cars......the Lambo and my GT.

I walked backed and said my various, " excuse me's " and could hear dad talking to all these people about the spec of the engine and people commenting about how she looked 'showroom fresh', ' Stunning', etc. I made it back to the bonnet and dad passed the batton over to me and carried on chatting to car fans.

A couple more mins passed and all of a sudden one chap piped up with a comment of 'it looks like a Corsa engine', as i looked up in shock i noticed a FCUK t-shirt and replied 'have you just arrived in that rusty Fiat?'.........silence fell momentarily amongst the crowd and the guy and 5 mates just turned round and walked off.......all of them taking the Ferrari Club UK (FCUK) t-shirts with them:)

The rest of the 4days in France was awesome, we stayed at Chateau D'Eporce with me spending most of my free time taking classic 911 owners out for test drives.....and them being very surprised indeed!

Hope that did bore you all and if you've not done Le Mans, you must :)

haha i love the story, sounds like it couldnt have happened to a nicer bunch!

Just goes to show, it isnt about how deep your wallet is, or how tiny your....errr you get the picture! If a car is well looked after and has a lot of natural beauty in it.... it will outshine almost anything! Its one of the reasons I love the Z3, when people see it they stop, ask questions, ask how can I afford such a car etc

That Opel sir, is one stunning car! health to enjoy!
