Cheers, just wished the sun would make an appearance :)

I asked the dealer if there was any chance they could get a Z in the reg somewhere :)

There is not much you can do in terms of mods, could swap to the 19s and trying too find a carbon rear diffuser but looks like China is the only source so a bit unsure on that one, basically just fitted the mud flaps and smoke chrome wheel nut covers, I think this one will be staying a bit more standard than the Z3.

I have an element of 'M-styling' on my car, If that's a good enough reason for the manufacturers to adorn a 320 with the M badge, then its certainly a good enough reason for me..

Thanks James, to be honest I spent a small fortune in carbon bits on the 1 Series only to sell it :head: due to limited bits for the E89 it might be doing me a favour :)

Cheers Pete, funny you should mention that, I been having a gander on youtube and looks nifty, you can lower the roof from the keyfob but not put it back up and you have to be staionary to work the roof at all so module does appeal :)

Are you sure about this? I thought the new z4 just had the roof mechanism beefed up to allow you to operate the roof at up to 25mph. To quote from the press release:

"BMW Z4: retractable hard top can now be opened and closed at speeds of up to 40 km/h.
It is well known that the BMW Z4 can be swiftly transformed from coupé to and open-top roadster, since opening the dual-section hard top is fully automatic and takes just 22 seconds. And closing the roof is even faster, taking just 19 seconds. As of spring 2012, the comfort and functionality of the roof kinematics are improved a stage further. A reinforced hydraulic system means that the driver can now open or close the hard top while travelling at speeds of up to 40 km/h, enabling an even more flexible response to the vagaries of the weather."

There also seems to be a software fix to do this (although the earlier E89 cars won't have the beefed up hydraulic mechanism). See here for info.

Looks really great Tim. I would never let Sharky go and I love Toadster but the new Z4 is lovely and is in my mind for a reliable daily driver.

I hope you enjoy her to the full if the weather ever improves!

Hmmmmm thanks for that, to be honest I just assumed not, but need too have a good read of the handbook yet to confirm.

The one thing that needs getting used too is the electronic parking brake, there has been a bit of hoo har on the Z4 forum as BMW mentioned in the specs that the 2.0 came with hill assist when in fact it doesn't, I know some who had ordered and then found out it didn't come with hill assist were thinking of cancelling, it turned out the 3.5i came with hill assist and BMW printed all the brochures up the same. I don't find the EPB and lack of hill start assist too much of a problem but I can see if you live in a hilly area in traffic it could be a pain as with the EPB its either on or off, you can't hold the car like you can with a manual hand brake :)

Thanks alot Paula, still loving the Z3 at 4 years ownership which says alot to how addictive the car still is. If you do consider a Z4 my advice is too keep an eye on BMW's offers as mine came with free M Sport upgrade and £7200 dealer contribution, not sure they will be doing this offer again for a while, maybe next winter as basically dealers were told to increase Z4 sales over last winter hence the financial incentives for customers.

Nope... it will also close the roof off the key fob, and it will also work roof up/down up to 40km/hr according to website
http://www.ppcgb.com/BMW/Z4-E89-2009--- ... smart+top/
Plus fold your mirrors and unlock after you take the key out of the ignition
and on sale for £234

so now..... you really do want one.... :D

Hmmmmm I'm unsure as yet, I really need to dig the hand book out and see if you can lower the roof whislt on the move, salesman didn't mention it, I did spec power folding mirrors which I'm finding very useful in my tight parking spot

Har aa look into the engine compartment of a new 328i the other day - nowadays it looks like you only get a half engine.... looks like the dealer was very generous with the vinyl makup on the tyres and plastic in the engine compartment.

What are the specs' on the car TitanTim?

Thanks Athulas, yes I did, I test drove the 2.3 6cyl but ordered the 2.0 4 cyl as it was the only model benefitting from the 7K dealer contribution :D

BMW are phasing out the 6cyl in favour of the twin scroll turbo fours, sad fact is its all about emissions of which the 6cyl can't compete. The 4 cyl engine will be making its appearance across all models.

The 2.0 lump in mine is 181bhp which is to replace the old 2.3 6cyl engine. I'm really not that bothered its not a 6cyl, it performs well, better on fuel than the 6cyl and with it being a smaller unit lighter and it sits further back over the front axle to aid 50/50 balance so win win all round.

The dealer hasn't done the vinyl makeup :) I have  its how it should be to bring the car upto standard :D

Cheers,

Tim.

Tim can you do a write up on the performance and economy figures once you get the chance to put a few miles on her.

I'd be interested to hear what it sounds like? does it still have the bmw noise? I would assume fuel economy should be pretty good?

No probs will report back how the economy fairs.

It certainly doesn't sound like a 6cyl but the exhaust is surpisingly sporty i.e. rorty when starting up, I'm told BMW have added a sound generator whatever that is on the exhaust to try and mimic the 6cyl sound which apparently can be piped through ICE but I'm unsure if you have too have the iDrive too allow for this.

Really haven't revved the engine yet as being good running in :)

I have an element of 'M-styling' on my car, If that's a good enough reason for the manufacturers to adorn a 320 with the M badge, then its certainly a good enough reason for me..

Z4 reversing up the drive, Z4 pulling back down the drive ;-)

Nice car anyway Tim and obviously the best colour. Can't believe you only brought titanium silver just so you didn't have to change your name :-)

:D

Well funnily enough I have just bought a new HD cam so a perfect opportunity :P to film a little roof action

Regarding colour it looks like alot of peeps on Z4Forum who ordered the new 2.0 went for white, must be half a dozen new Z4s that have just been taken in delivery all looking the same

I really didn't know what colour too go for, I knew I wanted to spec the red interior but really wanted a red Zed but thought it would look a bit too much with a red interior as well. Darker colours are always out for me, swirls etc always seem too show up, which really left silver, white or Sterling grey :? White can look stunning especially with 19s you can spec on the Z4 and the walnut leather interior but just played safe with silver and it really goes nicely with Coral red, bonus is I can keep my forum name  Sterling grey look good but I wasn't sure of SterlingTim :|

It wouldn't have had the alliterative ring to it.
