Did you do this yourself?

Apart from laying the paint on, which was done by my good friend Craig, yes it was all meBrian H wrote:Did you do this yourself?

that is a fantastic job - lovely to see it being done to such a level of detail - a real keeper...

Whereabouts is your mate Craig based?
I have a rear quarter panel off the car that I need respraying and his handy work looks the business.

Amazing, looks perfect! Would love to have this done to mine, to clean up a few areas which always stick out for me - although I think the cost of the respray would outweigh the initial purchase price, however.
Top work - look forward to one day seeing it in person!

He is in Hitchin but doesn't tend to do many private jobs, I can ask if you liketherealdb1 wrote:Whereabouts is your mate Craig based?

It can be an expensive job for sure but if you're planning to keep the car for a some time then I'd say it's worth it

Time for a quick speaker upgrade!
I like the look of the standard radio so always put off upgrading, but after 2 years with it I thought I'd try my old Alpine headunit in to see what a difference it made.
As it turned out... a big one
Before:
After:
So with the system already sounding 10x better I went for some new speakers to try and improve it some more:
I decided to avoid messing with any of the original wiring/plugs so ran my own, starting from the ISO adapter, to the crossovers, and from those to the tweeters and footwell speakers.
Old speaker:
Crossover, one for each side:
Wiring for the tweeters through a handy hole in the multiplug:
Old vs new:
The new tweeter was too big to fit the stock mount so I mounted it in the grille instead. Also re-spraying the grilles as they were slightly rusty:
New footwell 'woofers':
And finished:
Sounds great

Also bought this front underguard which has been missing since I've had the car. I've been keeping an eye on the price of these from the dealer for a while because if I remember rightly they were around £60-70 last year which was more than I was willing to pay. Checked again yesterday and they're now £25 so if anyone is after one, now would be a good time to buy

Yeah it's still under progress I've had it running and hoping to take it out sometime this year to see how it goes. Hopefully without a bang
Re: Mor61e's Topaz Blue 2.8 - Respray time
Bought another set of kidney grilles with a plan to have the surrounds painted to match the wheels. Ended up fitting them as they were after the car was resprayed just because they were in better condition than my old set. I finally got them painted recently and only when comparing the 2 sets did I notice that one set has chrome inserts and the others are black, didn't even realise there were different ones
Anyway, fitted them and went for a nice drive out for some pictures

100% agree, love the stance but not sure I could get away with mine being that low. What wheels are those, type, sizes, offsets etc?Daz3 wrote:Brilliant photos, car looks great love the third one down!

Re: Mor61e's Topaz Blue 2.8 - Respray time
Looks lovely! Do the kidney grilles come apart on the Z3? I have the same as you, chrome on chrome, and want to have the centre slats in black. Was thinking about taking them apart and spraying them, rather than picking up another set.
Car sits well on the style 32's - I'm having mine refurbed soon and this is tempting me with anthracite, but then our cars would be almost idential - so I'll stick with silver!

Yeh they come apart very easily once they're off the bonnet. Maybe see if someone will swap with you?
Grey or silver, either will look good, the wheels themselves are nice enough!
Re: Mor61e's Topaz Blue 2.8 - Respray time
Car really looks great mate, I love your wheels, I realy do, but confused the hell out of me..
Your saying the front is an et20 offset wheel??
I have a set of style 32 also e39, but 18 inch et20, and they stick out a good 2cm out of the front guard.
Can you do me a favour and have a look what your front wheel part number is, its written on the center of the wheel, just around where you bolt it up to the hub.
Id really appreciate it.
So much awesome on this car, hat off. Very nicely done.

Re: Mor61e's Topaz Blue 2.8 - Respray time
I have the same wheels (17x8 fronts, ET20) with 225/45/17 tyres, and had to induce a small amount of negative camber to the front for them to fit flush. I believe Mor61e has a narrower tyre than I do on the front, so he should have more clearance.Vanne wrote:Your saying the front is an et20 offset wheel??

Re: Mor61e's Topaz Blue 2.8 - Respray time
how did you do the negative camber? washers or with flipped z3m top hats?
