YNWACY's Z3

Post by YNWACY »

Hi guys, bought my Zed like this

First thing I did was strip the front number plate holder off and paint kidney grilles and BMW badges black.
Image

The badges will be replaced by carbon fibre ones soon.
I then changed the number plates, tinted the rear lights and added a boot spoiler.
Image

Then I test fitted some 19s because I don't like the 17s it's currently running on much. You can also see that I tinted the windows in this pic too.
Image

The fronts rubbed while turning so I didn't buy them. Instead I got these 18s which I will refurb into matte or gloss black.

Mods to come are carbon fibre badges, carbon fibre short aerial and possibly carbon fibre kidney grilles and carbon fibre front splitter. I'll definitely get a splitter of some sort. May also slam it on coilovers.

Looking good. I think the 18 inch Schnitzer alloys will suit the car well as they are from the right era. Keep up the good work :D
Here a picture of mine with similar style wheels

Looks a good project and you have some nice mods planned. Them wheels will look great when fitted. Not sure why you need a hardtop in Cyprus though must get a little hot

Did the 19's catch on the arch liner when turning? You can cut away the 'lump' on the arch liner or heat it up and make it flat to allow the wheels to turn correctly. The 18's you have though will look great.

Thanks for the comments guys. I could have got the 19s to fit but didn't want to change tyres and mess about with the arch liner. Also I thought they looked too modern for Z3, they would have suited a Z4 more.

The ACS ones are more from the era and I think will suit the car a lot more. 8.5 inches wide front and back. May need spacers to get the stance I want.

In summer it is way too hot drive with the roof down. I've had it for 2 months now and not even taken the hard top off yet.
Will do soon for driving in the evening. That is the best time as soon as the Sun is setting

ACS wheels are just about right for the Zed not sure about painting them black tho ! You might lose the style definition of the wheel

Here's the same wheel on mine

Welcome! Yes looks good, nice updates and pics. Keep up the good work. Got to agree with g8jka tho. Get that roof off and buy yourself a lovely tea towel to rap around your head! :D

Cheers

Haha I love the look of it with the roof on though!

Wheels are definitely going black. I can't stand chrome or silver.

See the wheels I have on my E60 5 series, 20 inch.

This is the other Zed I was looking at. I preferred this one but it's manual and my girlfriend only drives auto :(

Started the refurb today.

Degreased all wheels and cleaned them. Sanded 1 and gave it 2 coats of primer, 4 coats of matte black paint and 3 coats of clear coat.

It came out like a deep satin black, not matte or gloss. I love it!

After 3 coats of paint.

Bad light meant I couldn't capture the colour well.

Looks great, can't wait to see them on the car. Think they will look spot on with a dark finish. Dave
