A68 Dalkeith to Corbridge (or vice versa!)

How I found it:TBD

Useful tips: Fantastic road, but watch out for the scameras, especially in Scotland. They seem to be carefully situated in the only overtaking zones. :(

Spokey says: The road is excellent in either direction, I tend to use it more often heading north and come back a different way.

Where it is: Between Edinburgh and Newcastle

Estimated distance: 85 miles

do you actually like driving at all or are cars to you just a manifestation of some sort of pathological mother complex ?

Good road however it can be a total nightmare especially on bank holidays (i.e. this weekend coming). You can get stuck behind droves of caravans and trucks and as spokey said, the scameras are at the overtaking areas.

This is a CRACKING road - I use this every time I got to Scotland (we stay at Carfraemill on the A68 :))

I'd also recommend a slight detour - The A697 loops from Carfraemill to St Boswells, via Coldstream.

There's some awesome chocolatey bends and stunning views - and from what I remember only one or two scameras!

Good choice of route! :thumb:

Due to a business meeting I went up that way once, only the once mind, and was appalled at the placing of the cameras. My brother used to work for the Borders regional council and told me that they did, indeed, place the cameras at overtaking places. Never mind road safety, what will get the most tickets.. I swore never to return to that area, and never have.

Their loss.

I was down here a couple of weeks ago going to the borders counties rally. I had forgotten just how good the views were.. then again i was a passenger this time so perhaps I had a bit more time to look :zmurf:
