Z1 Rear back box mount

Post by BBZ149 »

Hi all, any ideas where I can get the offside Backbox mount from that goes into the rubber mount on the body? It's the bracket held to the backbox by 2 nuts+bolts. As mine seems to have gone AWOL lol. Thanks

Part listed on RealOEM is not available from BMW as it comes with the back box apparently. Real pain as it has a part number. Also if it was part of the backbaox why make it removable? as it would not have got lost if it was fixed

Which diagram are you looking at. There is an unusual addition to the table in this one, where #23 is actually made up of separate bits. I would guess that one of the BRACKETs is the bit you are looking for:

Code: Select all

23	REAR MUFFLER 1 18121728530	$1,272.24
	ONLY IN CONJUNCTION WITH
--	FLAT WASHER	A8,4	4 33311108205	$0.15
--	BRACKET LEFT 1 18122296061
--	BRACKET RIGHT 1 18122296062
--	HEX BOLT	M8X18	4 07119913627	$0.17
--	HEX NUT	M8-ZNS	4 07119922856	$0.39
--	WAVE WASHER	B8	4 07119932095	$0.04
I don't know my way around the Z1 on RealOEM, but there will likely be another diagram elsewhere which shows where the brackets connect to.

Cheers R.

Are you referring to part 24 in the diagram below?

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do ... g=18&fg=05

If so I would phone the very helpful guys at C3 on 0208 659 7272.

Good luck.

Sam, that looks like the rubber mount that the brackets fit into - it shows quantity 2, so I presume one for each side. I hadn't noticed it on the diagram (it's the same one I linked to) - basically because I know very little about the Z1. Cheers R.

Thanks Rob, was not sure if that was the correct part as is it shown in the diagram with a number.

sfh3l, it's the bracket in the diagram without a number, In the photo it is the metal bracket that is attached to the exhaust backbox, that then goes into the rubber mount.

I was thinking of making it,but if I could get the orig part it will save me time.

Could be:
-- BRACKET LEFT 1 18122296061
-- BRACKET RIGHT 1 18122296062

But is that left or right looking at the exhaust from the front or back of the car?

Thanks guys

Good point.
I would say almost certainly that when they say they left they mean the car's left (i.e. same side as driver's seat), since they describe the car as LH drive. BMW are nothing if not consistent!
Good luck.

Sam Lever.

Thank's sfh3l, but looks like im going to have to make it as BMW only sells it as part of the back box LMFAO. I wish the garage that refitted it, had fitted it properly :head:

Yes, that is unfortunate. Makes you want to take the spanner that the mechanic should have used to tighten the bracket and instead plant it right in the middle of his forehead. At least making it up should be easy enough. Just a thought, I know that BTB exhausts have made a few Z1 back boxes over the years. Might be worth telling them what it is you are after and they could perhaps make it up for you?

Good luck with it.

Sam Lever.

Back Box Bracket

Post by Pat Slade »

BBZ149 I am sure you have the correct part number. Back in 2002 someone on the z1z1 site was selling specially made stronger brackets for the back box, which are is the part you are looking for. The item does not appeat to be on their website any more so I have taken the liberty of dropping them an email to see if they can find the guy that made the brackets. If I get good news I will pass it on. In the meantime if you send me your email address I can scan the page from the June 2002 z1z1 website so that you can be certain that we are talking about the same part. If I get no joy I don't mind trying the Z1 Club e.V. of which I am a member.
Fingers crossed!

Hi Pat, That would be great thanks. Might be worth ordering both brackets if they still make them. I really appreciate your help.

Senna, your callipers - they're on the front side of the axle???
Mine are behind the axle.
Have you altered things at the back as well as that rocket power unit at the front of the car?

calipers

Post by senna »

No I took the wheel off to put grooved rear disks on.
Calipers at the front signify a Z1 with aluminum wishbones and calpers unique to the Z1. The calipers at the back are an E36 set up.

Your clamp looks like it does not have any washers on, which is why it fell off.

The picture is mine.
I took it as part of the description of the BTB silencer, it's at:
www.bmwz1.co.uk

There weren't any washers behind the nut heads. It didn't fall off or fail in the time I had the car.

Paul and Others

Have looked at my car which is original and untouched (ALO1555) and there are two washers on each bolt. One under the head and one under the nut. These I assume are the parts listed on the OEM Site and the BMW Parts CD.

Yo jet you could get it pimped for free, just don’t let Tim Westwood loose with it as you’ll end up with a proper Essex boy car. Xzibit is da man!!

I wonder what the West coast massive could do to a Z1?

Ihave just applied for sponsorship for a new shiny BTB exhaust system 8-)

Paul, hope I have not infringed any copyright, I did change the photo a bit though lol .

Thanks Michael, but Pat from the board has a pair for me. Thanks for the info.

Thanks to Pat Slade, who very helpfully acquired me a pair of very good quality brackets, I no longer need to worry about my back box falling off! . All I need now is a nice shiny back box to go with them lol.

Thanks again Pat, it was nice to meet you, and hope you can make it to the next Z meet.
