Tire suggestions?

Post by Rick Meinig »

I have a 1991 Z1 here in Colorado USA. Its time to replace the Toyo 225 45 R16 tires that are on it. I have checked on line with the two biggest online source for enthusisast tires-- Tire Rack and Discount..It seems that the only tire available in that size is a Goodrich TA tire. There is a Continental in that size but it is "back ordered". What are the options in regard to the stock size or is changing profile reasonable? Thanks for any advice! Rick Meinig

Rick,...

Since you are in the states I would put on the BFgoodrich g-Force™ T/A® KDW with the new thread.

I am sure that its available in the size according to BFgoodrich website.

It looks awesome!

So it will be the BFG g-force T/A's !!! Seems overly positive in term of reviews with the possible exception of tire noise...

Robert: I'll be happy to send/post pics. Tires should arrive later this week.

Are you going for the New Thread pattern or the old?

Here is a picture of the newly installed BFGoodrich Force T/A's. My initial impression is that they are better than the Toyo tires they replaced.

They look like an SUV tread, also, the even block size may be noisier than a mixed size block pattern.

Their treadwear number is 300, which is bloody hard compared with a grippy tyre like the Advan (Yokohama) AD07 which is 180.

The trackday favourite AO48 has a treadwear number of 60! But it does grip really well.....!

That is a high number but you can't directly compare numbers from different manufacturers as each uses their own control tyre...
