Did the Z1 have an "E-code" like all other BMWs?

Post by Budget M3 »

e.g E30 for 3-series of similar vintage, E24 for 6-series, etc...just wondering as I have been unable to find a reference for anything except "Z1"...

As far as I know, it's an E30.

The BMW TIS refers to the Z1 as an E30

So called BMW "E-code" ...

As far as I remember from my years at BMW's, the "E" stands for the German word "Entwurf" or "blueprint", "draft", "plan" for a new vehicle. They once must have started with E01 or something. It is confirmed that the letter E followed by a 2-digit number will be changed by "F" followed by a 2-digit n umber. E.g. the new BMW 7 Series (to be launched later this year) will be identified by F01 for the "short" version and by F02 for the long wheel base version. I do ignore what the letter "F" could stand for... any guess is yours ...

No. It's I think the only recent BMW not to have its own E-code. For parts purposes I gather it gets treated as an E30 derivative but officially it's not an E30 or an E-anything-else.

Z1...the only modern BMW without an Entwicklungscode or a Fahrzeugcode (guess that's what the F is for)!!!

TIS does list it as Z1-E30 - you can see this at www.realoem.com as well.
I suppose it's a similar deal to the E36 code of the Z3, there are some interchangeable parts between the Z model and the contemporary 3 series.

The "E"-Code for the Z1 is "Z/B" ... sounds strange, but that's the official Name for the Z1 in German Legal Papers
