NEWS FLASH (BMW Z1 badly damaged in Brighton)

Post by benslick »

Hey guys, my Z1 was recently broken into, cleared of all contence, including sterio/dvd/tv.. The intirior was also badly damaged! Someone either hates me or they are just idiots out there. They stole my media system even though I had the security panel. Idiots! I will now have to replace the roof which was cut & the intirior including seats & middle console. My insurance is going to go up big time!

I am not sure which roof to buy as a replacement, any suggestions as I have to have the work done in the UK....

The seats will come from BMW & I will fit them myself...

There are a lot of heroin junkie scum in Brighton, I had a convertible broken into down there and the security protected stereo removed the night before I was moving out to Cambridge.

Ben sorry to hear about your car, hope you had protected no claims!

Let me know if you find somewhere that does a good price for the roof, cheapest I found so far was £700 in Essex they make and fit the roof the same day.

Did you get the photos I sent you??

Very sorry to hear about this, Ben. It's not a nice experience for anyone to go through and I hope it all gets rectified at a minimum of cost. :(

Ben,

What a bummer. Sounds like an expensive insurance claim.

see the attached link, ignore the car for sale, the reference to the new hood with larger rear window may point you in the right direction

Sorry to hear that! I'd be furious - this is why I'm moving on Friday to a house with a garage! Still, look at it as an opportunity to pimp your interior and roof?

Tony - is that your car or did you manage to find another black Z1 with a light grey interior?? What is bigger about the rear window - looks normal to me?

Take a look at the Zipped rear window on the Z3, now imagine the same on the Z1, use your Greek charm to include it into the price, you wont notice the difference, its water proof and keeps the rear screen in good condition over the years, its not stab proof though, but you will be the first Z1 to have this unique feature :thumb:

Ben
Reading your post it felt like I'd been kicked in the stomach so I can't imagine how you feel. Seeing a picture of a Z1 writeoff somehow doesn't seem as bad. Probably because it's an accident but mindless vandalism is so frustrating.
Hope you get it fixed up soon.

Hi Ben

Sorry to here this, hope you get this damage sorted soon.

Munich Legends are not far from you and could possibly recommend someone nearby for the hood.

All's well that ends well!

Post by benslick »

I recieved the green light for repairs today! Need to buy a roof and find someone to fit it properly. I hope £1,000 will be enough for that! I have already purchased two new seats, new centre console & gear stick gater in Nubuck which will be delivered tommorow & will fit myself..

I have also decided on a change of shade!! My car will either be pearlesent white or matt black like a stealth bomber! Saw it on an Aston Martin & porsche 911 & loved it. However after seeing a forum members car in matt black (Not his Z1) I thought it looked so cool I had to try it with a Z1.. Bit of fun for a few years I thought.

White or matt black that is the question.... If I go matt black i'll never have to polish again! lol. I wonder if that's why my wife said that I should go with matt black. hmmm...

I will choose the colour most voted for on Zroadster net by you guys..

Hi - don't know how far you want to travel for the roof but I came across these guys when looking for mine

Their premises look good and appear to have a wide range of experience. Maybe worth a phone call ? They're in Poole.

Ouch! Very sorry to hear that.

About your roof, I can only advice you trying KHM near Stuttgart/Germany. Defenitely very good quality! http://www.cabrio.de

If these are the same people on Ebay, I bought a roof for about 400Eu but they would not send me the invoice to make the payment :head:

I found these guys in Essex, not too far from me for £750 fitted we can try and get a discount for 2 cars cash if you like?

Ouch Ben!
This is one of those moments when I start using phrases like 'string them up!'. I would be worse than furious if that happened to me, especially after all the time I have spent on the seats. OFH for sure!

Good luck with the repairs and hope the insurers don't dick you around too much.
Best regards,

Sam Lever.

KHM is also recommended by Franz Schaffer.

Don't forget that the roof is not the only thing you need for fitting a new roof. The rubberstrips and the glue are also very important.

Hi jonny,

The black / grey car in the link isn't mine; seems I no longer have the only "grey in the village"

The price quoted for the hood replacement is eye watering, maybe it also included the frame. Agree about the size to the rear window, the pictures appear to show the standard size and any increase can only be marginal.

Ben, I am sure a trimming company would be able to copy the damaged hood and tailor it perfectly to the car for a much more reasonable sum, perhaps in a different colour and material ?

A colleague in my office has had trimming work undertaken by O'Roukes in Sussex ... not to far from you. He was extremely pleased with their work See http://www.coachtrimmers.com/

HH, do you know the price of the rubber strip, and where to get it? also do you know if 686Euro includes the rubbers? as this seems quite expensive for just a roof, unless that is the fitted price.

Ben,

Sorry to hear about it mate. I took mine to car hood warehouse which I think is now soft-tops in croydon. I left my car there and I picked it up the next day. I think it cost me about £300 for a replaced rear screen but I am sure you can talk them down.

Roofs are not sold with gaskets, that is a BMW supplied part. Costs about £230 for all 4 (front, back, and 2 sides).
