Jesus H. Neither!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Matt Black is only for Russian criminals and pearlescent white is frankly a little too "Siegfried & Roy".

What about BMW's Mystic Violet or somesuch? - that's an awesome colour.

Or a dark-silver grey could look very cool.

If you must go for white or matt black, have you considered having the car wrapped?? It's much cheaper and non-permanent for when the novelty value has quickly worn off.

Some pictures of the exact colour on different cars would be useful.

OI BEN, DID YOU GET THE PHOTO'S I SENT YOU???

If you want fighter plane looks, im sure you can save up for the Lambo Reventon

Matt black would look like a rat-look modder had got hold of it, and that scene is not Z1 territory.

White would not suit the angles of the car.

What you want is an 80's colour to suit the styling. Red or black. or chrome

Question is, would wrapping cope with the huge expansion of the plastic panels in heat? Something the Z1 suffers from more than most cars.

Vinyl wrapping sounds like a good option to me.

I couldn't promise but I think the vinyl would cope very well with the expansion of the panels and it also has good properties for stone chip and scuff protection.

It is being increasingly used for F1 panels these days partly for turnaround time but also as it is lighter than traditional painting. From what I've seen its a bloody good technology.

Maybe it comes from having lived in Moscow where every second AMG Merc, Porker 997 and Cayenne is matt black with vast pimpy alloys, but for me matt black equals Russian gangster bling and over here in the UK I think that just looks tragically try-hard.

No idea re the vinyl but would guess Andy knows his onions on this topic!

Sorry Ben ... no vote from me for your selected colours. Matt black is for drug dealers, Russians and Arabs. White is for pimps, are you serious ?

A Z1 colour change ?? I would go for the following, in order of preference.

1. BMW Estoril metallic blue. Stunning. Maybe a slightly darker shade as Holland Harry. A beautiful car !

2. TVR Reflex Charcoal. A flip paint which can be either metallic black, dark green or purple depending od the angle you look at it. Downside? the paint is £800 per litre. see http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1039451.htm
It would look good with a dark green hood and would also compliment the camouflage seats.

3. BMW Ruby Black metallic.

Option 1 are about to repaint the front of my TVR and are composite / fibreglass specialists. Not the cheapest but very very good.

Personally, I'd prefer Carbon Black, but yeah ... I agree with Teatray. Neither of your suggested colours.

Hi i had my Lamborghini done and it looks great in my opinion however everyone seems to forget that if you dont like it or the novelty wears off then just remove it with a heat gun. If you paint your car its permanent. The Z1 is a fun car - my vote is matt black

Hey mate, well the Z1 is booked in, just waiting to see what colour the Z roadster boys choose for me! How exciting! Looks like Matt black may win at the moment! Love it or hate it mine will be the first Z1 rapped in the UK Yee Ha.... Hope my car gets selected in the gumball rally next year!!

My new intirior and seats have arrived at Coopers and will be delivered to Brighton on Monday! Thanks mate

Roof replacement is booked in with cartrim in Sussex and they have done about fifteen Z1's since 1990.. Roof cost £580.00 & fitting £200.00. Not bad I thought.

Indeed ben "love it or hate it" but please don't do the matt black paint job !
It's so damn difficult, no wait, it's impossible to keep the matt black paint clean, specially over there in brighton with all the nasty seagull's.

Being a purist, if I was changing the colour, I would have to pick another Z1 colour for it. I have seen a Magic Violet Z1 in the flesh, and it is gorgeous. I'd go for that. If I wasn't a purist, ummm...I wonder how an Alpine White Z1 would look.

Sorry, but to me the matt black just looks as though a body shop has primed the panels but couldn't be bothered to finish the job. The white option has my vote.

Hey Ben.

I "voted" for Matte Black, but if it were mine, I would consider a more modern M-car color like Imola Red or Interlagos Blue. Either would better fit the image for the Z1 that you have worked so hard to help us maintain!

Here's a picture of Imola on our M3 just to whet your appetite [Dutch plate at no extra charge for you, Harold!]

Why don't you ask Franz - he has some samples of nice colours of what the Z1 supposed to be painted when it was developed.
Instead of choosing some nasty color - how about reviving one of the colors the Z1 was supposed to be produced but some nasty financial controllers said "No" - even if it would have looked good 8-)

Ben my vote will be for Imola red if you ever repaint the car! It kicks the orange out of the red paint. :colourful:

Mister Benslick, Dear Ben,

I would have been thoughful of you if you had pointed out in front of this tread that you are not going to paint your Z1 but that you would like to wrap it in some kind of lamina or what ever it is. There for the change in color would not be permanent or as Apollo pointed out just use a heat gun to remove the stuff again.

There for I see not problem in going for matt black until you have enough money to get a proper paintjob.

Last but not least a matt black Z1 suits a sausagedealer from Brighton awesome!

Come on guys am i the only one that thinks that the original Z1 colours are not that special. Why do you think they gave them silly names like Magic Violet- whats magic about it!!! Dream Black- a bit theatrical if you ask me. MATT BLACK gives you all the info you need. Lets change the Z1 image from a gentle drive with the wife at the weekend to drugs and rock n roll!!!!!

P.S- even BMW in there new advert have got a couple in a Z1.

We have all changed some part of the Z1 that we dont particularly like (some more than others) however Ben do you have the BIG COHONES to go Matt Black .

Amen Apollo!

I agree with you that the standard z1 colors are not the best colors there are. Thats why I changed to Deepseablue metallic.

Now it up to Ben! Are your Cohones big enough to do it? And if you do so, are you still sleeping in one bed with your wife? Or should I already book a hotel room for you. I can recommend a really fancy hotel in Brighton. :D :D :D

I've got the cohones alright!! :D

I did not point out I was having the car rapped as I thought the more ambiguous it looked the more fun I would have reading the replies! :D

Yes folks it's totally reversable.. However Holland Harry & Appollo I have had an idea, If I made the car White as White is winning in the poll!
I could have the rear black plastic defuser in Carbon and the bottom part of the rear bumper in carbon. Now that would look cool, similar to this Japanise Z1 from my new upcoming book! :D

Intrestingly enough this car has had the bootom of the bumper rapped in the matt black effect.. Hmm should I just go for matt black???? AHHH!!!!

That looks good.

Have you considered wrapping it in matt white vinyl?

I saw a matt white Continental GT the other day and whilst that certainly didn't strike me as a tasteful combination of car and colour, the matt white finish was nevertheless quite intriguing!

Ben,

Don't do stick on carbon fibre. It looks seriously crap. Better doing those bits in matt black.

If I had more time I'd look into sorting you out with some of the proper stuff but I barely have time to breathe at the mo'

Ben,
I can't vote as I don't go for either of your options!
Sorry mate but my personal views are close to those already expressed. I hate the matt black look and I think pearlescent white would just ruin the car.
My feeling would be:
Estoril - every day winner for me
Publau - a true Z1 colour but not as nice as Estoril
Avus - mean and moody blue
Your very own Top Red - the car looks great in that colour
Gloss, non metallic Black
Colour, trim and wheels are a very personal thing, but I would avoid the carbon fibre too.
I agree re the wrapping idea. A colour change to something off the page like matt black is a big step and could turn out to be one you wish you hadn't taken. Wrapping is quite an expensive experiment, but a whole lot less than repainting properly!

IMHO the matt black would look sh1te on a Z1.

The matt black image does conjour up thoughts of wannabe gangstas tying too hard, and trying to have the biggest 'look-at-me' car.

The Z1 isn't a big car. It's a small 2 seat sports car. Out of the two, I think the White with black trim would by far look the best, and in keeping with the latest 'white means fast' look around at the moment.

However, when it's time for proper paint, go for a 'Individual' BMW colour.
Imola Red, Violet, Phoenix - or even the Estoril Blue?? 8-)
