I believe what's being referred to are the front control arms and rear Z-shaped trailing arms.

Ahh. But was this a factory-fitted thing depending on build date etc (as Pierre's post seems to indicate), or something after-market?

Factory fitted although I think a few people have retrofitted the aluminium bits in lieu of the steel bits.

The aluminium arms are a fraction lighter (left) but lose out on the camber adjustment that the steel arms (right) allow.

The steel arms also allow the fitment of modern floating and vented disks owing to the caliper position and are therefore better for upgrading the rear brakes for cars with circa 400bhp :D

AFAIK the steel rear arms also have more space for the wheels on the inside :)

Hi Apollo, hope you are well. Sorry been away for a bit with the 1 HP stuff :(

The track is the same on the old and new suspension.

The difference is the drive shaft length, and the hubs and the arms.

The older stuff basically has shorter "wishbones" and drive shafts with taller hubs.

The stuff I put on your car is the newer kit 8-)

The newer arms also allow for the H+R Coil overs that I have put on yours. 8-) 8-)

Basically other than a few extra pounds (and you have more than enough power and reduced unsprung weight with the front and rear coilovers) there is little if any advantage to running he old kit.

Enjoy it and see you soon!

I can't wait to see the next beast!! How much has been compleated now?
I guess my car has the old original set up because it was an early Z1.
I'm finding life without my Z1 very dull while Im waiting for it to be re sprayed.

Apollo,

Are you going to buy the new v8 powered Z1? If so what are you going to do with your M3 powered Z1?
I saw an E30 M3 powered with a V10 destroy a new V8 M3, V8 M5 & M6 on you tube. Was simply crazy!

No the newer ones are, they have the steel rear axle and can mount 10inch wheels :D

And I am also very curious about the new engine adventures :D
On our Z3 forum a forummember is mounting the V10 in an 2.8 Z3QP.
