I would be 8.5 with 215/40/18
and 9.5 with 245/35/18
My tires on the 9.5 are no longer available.
I'll have to change later on 215/40/18 and 245/35/18.
The tires need If a 3.91 diff is usually translated the zetti too long.

why did you choose a 215? Do they perform better? It appears to bend inwards away from edge of the rim, as opposed to overlapping the edge and providing some form of Protection.

I have 215 because I have an adjustable suspension. It is too close to the inner strut
The Conti tires than 215 is very broad, almost as 225th
225/40/18 has too much rolling circumference.
225/35/18 fit better.
Almost like the original 225/45/16

Here is a good tire size calculator in English (well, Canadian English, anyway ). You can compare up to 4 different sizes at one time:

ET 16 is on the small site when you don't want to lower the car. It would better be around ET 20-ET 22. That is much safer.BBZ149 wrote:Not sure about outer rings but ill ask him. Claus will give you a list of the ET values you can choose from.
It is always better to pick a thicker adapter afterwarts!
You can reuse the 225/40/18 for the front and should get 255/35 for the rear. They fit together the best.
Or go for the thinner 225/35/18. That is closer to the original size but not as comfortable as the 225/40/18. Another disadvantage is the fact that you cannot get a nice rear tyre to go with it. The closest is the 245/35/18.
I have 215/40/18 and 245/35/18 at my Schnitzer, that is exactly in between. My wheels are 8,5*18 ET 18 and 9,0*18 ET 22.
But I used the 3.91 Diff the compensate for the bigger wheels.
Hi
255/35/18 on the rear axle will not fit. The tire Grind.
VA 225/40/18 HA 255/35/18 .The Zetti was so very slow with the wheels.
9.5 x 18 ET 32 with 15 mm Adapter = ET17
9.5 x 18 ET 32 with 20 mm Adapter = ET12
There is no other way.You can change the wheel on other ET
I now have short diff. I have thin tires so I can more deeply with the adjustable suspension.
I would try HA 235/40/18. From the size it is not optimal for the 225/40/18
The correct tire size is not so simple.
Sorry me English ist so bad.

All these big wheels and tires slow the car down big time. You will need a very short differential (3.91) to get a bit of speed back in the car. You don't need bigger brakes than the car will slow down all by itself with those big wheels.
Ill get speed back one day when I install 3.91 Diff! for now looks are more important than speed Also get to keep driving license longer
What is the price for 3.91 LSD??
Open and close with German style and ingenuity!
I will try to explain again:
First: your car won't get slower as it is now because you already drive the 225/40/18.
Second: it makes a big difference how the wheels look if the car is lowered like Volkers and mine. When the car is lowered the camber gets more negative and the wheel is pushed inside the fender at the top.
Then the low ET number from Volker works.
When the car is not lowered the low ET number will make your car look like a big foot because the wheels are raging out of the fender and that looks like sh**t That's why I would advise a higher ET number. Somewere around ET 20.
You can always go to a lower number by using spacers. That is less expensive then sending the wheels back to Claus and let them adjust them when you don't like it
Please give me the exact numbers (inches and ET number) for your current wheels and measure how much more you want them to come out. Then I can tell you exactly what ET number you need.
Pierre

Mr T, all this talk of ET numbers ring a bell?BBZ149 wrote:Now I’m confused lol
Chaps don’t forget my car is AL00472! An early model, Is this going to make a lot of difference? Also going to need to get the ET sorted as Claus suggested 16! and Pierre you say it should be round ET 20-ET 22
As this is a one-off deal, you might consider putting the wheels on hold until you have all the options and how it affects handling, performance, tyre selection, allow yourself time to make the correct choice.
The LSD you can get from ATech, the E30 Specialist, between £250-£400.

OK Pierre,
Claus has come back with 8x18 ET22 and 9x18 ET22! But now it's 8 and 9 not 8.5 and 9.5 will offset still need to be ET22?? Or shall I just stay ET16 with 8x18 + 9x18?
I will measure what I have on my car and let you know

Terry, is all a matter of taste. They will both fit.
But in my taste the 8,5 and 9,5 with ET 16 wil come to much out of the fender when the car is not lowered.
This comes at the front about 2.2 cm more out of the fender then the original wheels, at the rear the difference is even 3.5 cm!
At 8 and 9 ET22 it will IMO look better.
This comes about 1 cm more out of the fender then the original wheels at the front and 2.2 cm at the rear.
Give me the exact numbers of your current wheels and I will tell you te difference there too.

Hi Pierre,
I did not get a chance to check current wheels, but my old wheels are:
7.5J x 18 H2 Offset of the wheel is 45 and It has 20mm spacers as in the photo
Big photo:
http://i622.photobucket.com/albums/tt30 ... 1269959733
Do you think 8 + 9 ET22 will sit flush as I need them to come out about another 10mm?
Also how low would I have to lower car to use 8.5 and 9.5 rims, and would I be able to use 40 series tyres? If yes, do you know price of required springs and where I can get them from posted to UK. Thanks

Yep, that brings you to the ET25, the offset of the original OEM 16" wheels.BBZ149 wrote: but my old wheels are:

ET22 is 3 short of ET25, so if you want an extra 1cm, stick a 1cm spacer in there.BBZ149 wrote: Do you think 8 + 9 ET22 will sit flush as I need them to come out about another 10mm?

Eibach springs, very popular with Z1 owners, progressive, so retains comfort until you floor it, lowers the car by 25-30cm, price range up to £240 (I might sell you mine
Option 2
There is a set of Spax springs selling on ebay for £154, but check the numbers as this may be a misprint. Nobody I know has used Spax, so no idea how they perform.

The 8 and 9J will come out 10mm at the front and 22mm at the rear.
The 8,5 and 9,5 will come out 22mm at the front and 34mm at the rear.
When you lower the car with eibach for example you can use the 8,5 and 9,5. At the front you could drive the 225/40/18 (better would be the 215/40/18), at the rear you need the 245/35/18.

The last thing I heard about the Eibach springs is that Eibach is not producing these anymore. Franz Schaffer is negociating with them to get a serie of 50/100 made!
In the mean time maybe try Ebay germany!
Or maybe you get lucky, with a set of springs that is Mr T, and find a set somewhere.

HH
