Returning to the fold
I dithered. I ummed and ahhed. I flirted with the idea of all sorts of other w/end toys.
And then yesterday I bought another Z1. Sanity and normality have therefore been restored.
Collection in a couple of weeks.

It's first registered March 1991 - chassis number in the 4000s. Has 34k miles on the clock. Imported from Belgium in 1999.
Standard about from a BTB aerofoil twin-exhaust.
The tortoise is fine - sitting on a shelf in the garage awaiting its new steed!
This is the only photo I took:

Yup, there will be a de-oranging session before too long - both at the side and the front. I have a spare set of front indicators anyway.
List of other things to do are:
1. Inspection II service and cambelt change (got quote from Munich Legends and knocked price of this off asking price);
2. Have hardtop repainted and fitted (yes, am getting the mountings back from the green one);
2. Fit the wind deflector from the last car;
3. Fit the wood-rim steering wheel from the last car;
4. Fit the tortoise;
5. Change the numberplate;
6. Do something about the nubuck bits of the seats which need at least a thorough Chrissying (and preferably a retrim in leather);
7. Get iPod connectivity installed.
...oh and kick out the spider who has taken up residence in one headlamp and adorned it with a fetching cobweb.
I recall the wiper issue being more than just the relay. I think it was a fault in the actual motor because I think it was more expensive to fix than one might imagine. I will find the receipt and take a look.

Welcome back, WB, TT, RT or whatever your moniker turns out to be!
I'm so pleased you decided not to foresake the Z-experience. As you know, infection is rarely fatal, but very hard to shift.
A decent colour choice too! I thought that was my car till I noticed the garage wasn't the same.
Well done Jonny. I am sure you will not regret it.
