New Forest is beautiful, I grew up there, the roads aren't too bad and you got to watch out for horses, but going through some of the small villages like Burley and Brockenhurst would look Fab. :)

If New Forest is the destination, then this is the Accomodation.

The New Forest is a beautiful area but it tends to get rather busy in the summer. Combining that with sharing the roads with various grazing animals and 40 mph speed limits in areas it doesn't make for a good area for "spirited" driving.

I haven’t polled but the only date that I cannot do is 4/5 June.(in laws big birthday celebrations)
The New forest is a lovely area but it has been mentioned that we would have to Watch out for the Ponies.

I have no preference for any of the dates listed or really any of the locations. However, if our friends from across the water are keen to visit again, I think a little consideration might be afforded to minimise the distance they have to travel in this country, as one or two stated on leaving the Cotswold Tour in 2009 that their home journey could be 800 kms plus.
Has any view been expressed regarding one or two nights accommodation and also any places of interest that our friends may wish to visit ?
Having just endured some 15 to 18 inches of snow and being virtually cut off by road for several days, the thought of sunshine and open road motoring is very appealing.

Well, for the people who have to cross the Channel, I wondered whether the North-east of England, near one of the ferry ports, wouldn't be an idea? I have (obviously) got routes and a list of potential hotels that can host us, and the roads and scenery are pretty magnificent... :D

I and Pierre had a meeting with the Germans this weekend. We talked about the tour for next your to the UK. Until now apart from Pierre and myself, Volker, Henner, Manfred, Michael, Juergen will be comming. I also talked to Franz Schaffer and most certainly he will also join again.

All the Dutch and Germans are in favour of the date 25/26 of June. We will be coming on the 23th of June and leave on the Sunday the 26th again.

Will gve you aring next week. We didn't talk since the Dutch Tour.

Picking up on Rogers comments regarding easier travel for the guys from the continent what about "Constable Country" or a tour based around the Suffolk / Essex borders. For example, Bury St Edmunds, Lavenham, Southwold etc. maybe a tour of the Lotus factory (if possible)

The ferry terminals at Harwich / Felixstowe are in the area plus the channel tunnel is an easy 2 hour drive. Plenty of open country roads and not crowded with tourists.

Weekend of 25/26 June would be best for me.

Dear Jet,

Having spoken to the Anglo Dutch and German contingent as they are making such a huge effort to join your tour and meet British z1 drivers I can't help but feel the tour should be set on the 25th and 26th of June so they can come. Could we have some agreement or decision on this before wen go any further?

Can't wait for another excellent tour!!

Hallo Prince Harry, a long time indeed, hope your well,

Dont pay too much attention to the poll as it is misleading, only 1 person voted 25/26th, but using the latest 5 fingered technology, I calculated that Pierre, Harry and Ben = 3 people who also prefer that date :) (Sorry, poor humour). The majority of UK owners I spoke to are flexible, so I cant see these dates being a problem.

Ben,

Dont panic, Pierre and Harry are part of the Z1 family regardless of geographical location. We are only at the discussion stage, so before any decision is made, its only fair we should hear what others have to say.

Can I ask that anyone who can do the 25th, vote accordingly. It will give us some idea on numbers.

Hope it all makes sense.

Ciao.

Hello Jet,

No panic here, I just like decisions to be made. You must forgive me as I'm not used to democracy, rather dictatorships like in my house! Lol..
Everyone should have there say :D The only issue is that the 24, 25 is the only weekend the Europeans can make and if it's decided to have the UK tour on another date we could also arrange two UK tours, how fun would that be!

I think it's another special opportunity for UK based Z1 owners to meet the cream of the German and Dutch Z1's and their owners of course!

Merry Christmas... :dunce:

Tony, if you have any detailed knowledge of the area, that would be useful.
They will be arriving via the Tunnel and most likely based in London, a benefit to those who would like to park the car securely and use the transport network to do some sightseeing, shopping etc. There is also the option to take the car further afield if they choose.

From Jet

Dates:
There is strong interest from Netherlands/Germany based Z1 owners who would like to make the trip, so planning in advance is crucial for them. The thing I get asked most about is dates. Rather than our usual May Bank holiday which conflicts with the Monaco Grand Prix, dates in June/July are
listed.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Jamahl,

Thanks for your pm telling me I have OCD... You are hilarious! The only reason I stressed the 24th 25th was because the Netherlands/Germany based Z1 owners said that was when they could make it, nothing more nothing less.... Which was just following on from your original post..
You did say don't stand by the side lines as it's not Jamahl's tour! But I shall take your advice and relax.. Whatever will be will be, I have no preference as I will always make time for my friends.

Happy Christmas

Boys no need to fight over this! I assume for sure that spokey will help set up the tour. Tony has already an idea about the area where to go to have the tour. I will help keep all the no english under control! :D With Tony and Spokey together when can pick a hotel. So where is the problem than boys? :?

For sure it doesn't have to be the Jamal Tour now also know as Jamalski. So we can help set up the thing. By the way where did Jet go? :puzzle: First Racing Teatray left and no Jet? Maybe I should change from Holland Harry in to Harry Holland. :D :D :D Or Dutch Harry!

PS. I ask Ben to put a good word in for us! And try to arrange the tour on the 25th and 26th.

Jamal

I went to school (many years ago) in Bury St Edmunds and know the area reasonably well.

I know security of the cars overnight is very important to most of us, the Priory Hotel in Bury would be good, The grounds are private, surrounded by a very large wall and the car park can hold 65 cars. May be useful for those who wish to travel or stay on the Friday or Sunday. No idea how good the restaurant is, however, the historic town centre which is based around the Abbey would be a 45 minute walk or 10 minutes in a car. There is a service station for fuel very near the hotel, bear in mind when you start traveling through the boondocks in East Anglia fuel can be difficult to get. See; http://www.prioryhotel.co.uk/home/

Road links to Bury are pretty good (off the A14) given nearly all people in the UK will need to travel east.

Some ideas for places in the area which could form part of a wider tour depending on the chosen dates and initial meeting place.

http://www.classicteamlotus.co.uk/content/tour.aspx

http://www.discoverlavenham.co.uk/

I am happy to spend a day in the New Year to recce and explore a route if someone cares to join me to write it up and note down times once an itinerary is decided upon.

Chaps,
It's been a while since I have been on here - pressure of work and the fact that time seems to go faster than dry ice in the tropics.
My personal vote would be for Jet's proposal of Ettington again, as it is very central and in beautiful countryside.
However, Sufflolk also could fit that particular bill, as could the New Forest or indeed the Lakes.
My only request is that it is NOT 11th/12th June, as I shall be in Le Mans with my little Zettie, so neither of us could come!
Well done Jet for making the effort to get something sorted and a very Merry Christmas to you all.
I wish each and every one of you the very best for 2011 - see you on the other side!
Best regards,

Sam Lever.

Maybe it is a good idea to redo the poll!

I voted for the 4/5 but that was before the Germans told me they would come. I believe Pierre did the same.

At the moment I have six German cars who will come including our forum member Volker and Franz Schaffer. With Pierre, Terry aka BBZ149, Benslick and myself that will already be 10 cars in favour for the 25/26th.

A tour will not be a tour if our Dutch and German friends are not there

June 4/5 35% [ 10 ] Any idea who the 10 are?, and is the 25/26 a definite no no for these guys or was June 4/5 just a preference :?:

It probably is! But I don't think that to many Brits will come to Bad Griesbach. I myself prefer to go to England for a tour. Bad griesbach is to far for my for a weekend.

UK Tour

Post by benslick »

Dear Jamahl,

You kindly initiated organising the UK tour but have since been a little quiet and it is now Febuary and we still have no date set for the UK tour! The vote poll is inaccurate as some people including myself want to change their vote. People need to start booking tickets so can you please set a new poll to sort this out once and for all.

I am sure most of us don't want to miss out on getting as many Z1's together for another brilliant tour like the one the year before last.
I can't comment on the Welsh tour because I sadly missed it and don't want to miss another!

Hi Jamahl

The problem with doing it by poll is that you can only specify one date.
Perhaps a new thread where we can all specify which of the 5 dates we are available would be easier and you can take the most popular date.
You could list it all on a spreadsheet (I love lists and spreadsheets :) )

Z1 2011 Summer Meeting

Post by benslick »

Z1 2011 Summer Meeting

I have been waiting to find out when the annual Z1 UK tour will take place this year! Unfortunately we have not heard anything to date. As time is passing us by with no word, some Dutch and German Z1 drivers really fancy coming to the UK and meeting English Z1 drivers.

The only problem is they will need to think about booking tickets soon or they might not be able to come! Which means they can’t wait much longer to find out when the UK tour will be!
Taking this into account a few English Z1 drivers have decided to agree to meet up with them.
So this is just a heads up to anybody who may be interested in meeting up on the weekend of June 25th and 26th. 2011 as this is the only weekend the Europeans could come!

This does not have to be instead of the annual UK Z1 tour but additionally to it and is in no way in competition with it which is why I have also posted here. As a matter of fact I personally would love to meet up more than once this year! However if it is decided that the Z1 UK tour is to be set on the same weekend we could just all join up together.

If that does not happen I want to make it very clear that anybody is welcome to meet up with us and meet our European cousins and their Z1s for a bit of summer fun.

The 14th of November was the last time you said something to the Z1 Tour! We are now living in February and there is no reaction from your side? Why is that mate? Give me a ring or send me a PM! I would like to know the reason of this!! :? If you have no time, say so and we try to see if we can take over. Tony and Spokey already offered their services! :thumb:

So it would be nice to hear from you on this subject soon.

Regards and hopping that everything is well with you,

Harold

Harry,

Nothing much to report, making numerous calls, writing and responding to emails, contacting owners from the 2009 Tour, researching hotels, potential destinations and routes, involving carclub members.

There is alot of effort going on in the background, it just takes time.

Dear Jamal/ Jetski,

I need to know the date for the Z1 Tour before the end of the week! We are waiting since November for a date a still don´t know anything. The guys need to plan in advance. Get babysitters for all the kids these guys have and convince the wifes to come. Girlfriends is also okay ofcourse. :D Otherwise we have to cancel our presence to this Z1 Tour.

We need to plan this in advance. I can understand that organising the Tour needs time but I think it´s fare to be given a date for the Tour on a very short notice! If not, I am very sorry to say that the 7 Germans, Pierre and myself will not come. :bawl:

We will go on mainland Tour than! Sorry but that´s the way it is!

Awaiting your response,

Harry

Jamahl,

Nothing much to report is not really much of a response! What dates are you planning your tour? I say your tour as you are planning it.
You may be speaking to owners from the 2009 tour but your certainly not sharing much info with us! We need to know the dates! You seem to respond without responding! What's tha plan stan?

Isn't all this getting a bit unnecessarily pointed?

It seems to me that Jamal is organising all of this for us, just as he did before and it seems to me that a bit of appreciation wouldn't go amiss. The last tour we did in the Cotswolds was a truly excellent weekend and I am sure that this one will be too. All we have to do is let him get on with it!
Best regards,

Sam Lever.

I don't know what your point is Sam?

I am just asking for a date for several months now! I assume that's not to much to ask for!!!!! As I pointed out if the tour isn't going to be on the 25/26th we cannot come. And we like to join an other tour than. But we need to know in advance so peolpe can plan things. Appart from that there is no reason for me to push Jamal/Jetski on the subject. And like the be surpised with another briljant tour like two year's ago!

Instead of you mixing in, no offence Sam, Jamal could just give me a proper answer and all is well! :D :D :D
