Who has driven their Z1 in the last week?

Post by sfh3l »

Come on, be honest........

I know I haven't. We have only just got rid of the snow and it is Damn cold too. Does this mean we are due a fantastic Roadster Summer?

Fingers crossed!
Best regards,

Sam Lever.

Not Z1, but I did take the frog for a run out on Sunday. It had dried up and the rain had washed much of the salt of the roads - but we've had very little snow here compared to the rest of the UK.

Cheers R.

To be honest no. To much snow and slippery roads! Wouldn't risk the car in this weather. :shake:

I believe Racing Tortoise is the only one with wintertyres for the Z1. :drive

No not used mine either i live in some sort of micro climate.

The road outside my house has only just lost the ice from our first snowfall in early December and it was snowing again this morning!!!.

Yes I drove my Z1 to Surrey and back on Monday as it needed a decent run and the weather looked clear. In fact it snowed slightly on the way back but to a degree that barely moistened the ground.

Haven't put the winter tyres on this year as when I went to do so in early December, I found that the first one I tried was as flat as a pancake for reasons that were not obvious. So I just put them all back in the garage and resolved just to use the 135i if it snowed (since that has had its winter wheels fitted).

I have to admit that my car is still siting under its cover in the garage and has been on SORN for three months. I live not many miles away from Ivor and the conditions since early December have not been really Z1 weather.
I have looked under the cover to check for a heart beat and confirm that it is still alive. These battery conditioners are worth their weight in gold.

Just a quick, roof-up trip of 20 miles or so last Sunday. All the snow had gone and the salt had been washed away. I try to use it at least once a fortnight.

250 miles later, mostly with the roof off, i'm back in one piece. Lovely to be aloud to drive it, the only other thing i drive long distances is the horse lorry!! so driving the little red windy car was lovely and seeing my sisters rock on her finger was good too.
Got a little photo to show my nice day out.

OK, so I've 'broken the duck' now myself.
I popped out for a quick on yesterday morning. The sky was a beautiful pale blue and there was glorious winter sunshine. However, there was apalling black ice too! I drove about 25 miles and saw three cars in the dtich in that space of time. The Z1 was fine, though I was hardly able to drive it as it should be enjoyed.
I now have in prospect the following work before the driving season begins:

Cam-belt - having done 12,000 miles since the last one, my 4 years is up.
Cam-belt pulley -cheap insurance
Water Pump - again, cheap insurance while I am there
New BMW long-life anti-freeze
Check and adjust valve clearances - Yawn!
New front discs - previous ones warped through my own exuberence
New pads, front and rear
MOT in March

With that little lot behind us we should be ready to enjoy another trip to Le Mans, the summer Z1 getaway and whatever else we fancy during 2011.
Best regards,

Sam Lever.

Would love to have taken the Z1 out this weekend. Sadly the next journey I will be making is to the garage for an MOT as this expired in December, as the combination of snow and work commitments mean that I didn't get a renewal sorted in time.

This is compounded by the fact that I have temporarily misplaced the key to the 2 sturdy padlocks that keep the Z1 safe and sound in the garage. So it looks like I have a choice:

A. Spend next Saturday searching the house from top to bottom looking for the key (and probably Sunday tidying up the carnage)

B. Order 2 new padlocks and a pair of bolt cutters from screwfix.com

Answers on a postcard.

Either way, I'm determined to go for a drive in January once the road salt has been washed away.

Mrs A,
After all your hard work, its the least Mr A could do and let you take over as pilot. Nice photo, I like the diminishing arch effect.

Look forward to seeing Z1 #2!!
