20 years old - classic or cherished

Post by SCORPION »

Now most of the Z1's are over 20 years old, has anyone noticed a reduction in insurance. In the "old days" a car had to be 20 years old to be classed as a true classic and benefit from cheaper insurance.

Hi,

I pay £300.00 a year on a classic policy but have limited milage of 3,000 miles inspite of my driving history! It's the way to go..

I have a classic policy and pay a smidge over £400 a year with mileage limited to 2,000 per year (mileage might sound low but I've only done 1,000 miles since the current policy started in July 2010 so is about right).

That's high compared to Ben's, but then I do live in central London (albeit that the car is garaged) and I did have a total loss pay-out on my last Z1 last year!

In previous years, it's been nearer £200 pa.

Doubt you will notice a reduction, as its broker dependent, not industry standard, I used to be with Carole Nash and their Classic Policy was based on having accrued a number of years NCB, something my new broker did not require, so huge differences in price. I paid £190 last year, but expect that to go up, as insurance premium tax has risen and insurances losses have increased.

I seem to be in line with Jet. Paying £190 for an annual limit of 1,400 miles. Expecting a big jump this year! Looking back over the years the cheapest it has ever been was in 2008 when it was £180. Worst 1999 £510.
It really does need to be looked at regularly, and loyalty counts for nothing. It has been on a limited mjleage classic policy since 1996.
Fingers crossed for this renewal!

Just did a quick confused search and will be changing my policy from Post Office's £420 to Performance Directs £227.64 per year :)

Have a laugh; the most expensive quote was Marks and Spencer’s at £1935 I wonder if that includes a freaking complete M&S house furniture makeover  I think they should stick to selling good quality food

How many of you changed your wheels and declared it to the insurance broker? Does it put a lot on the price of the policy? Cheers

I tried Webuyanycar.com when I was first thinking of selling the M3 Sport Evo and moving to the M3 CSL.

To disclose numbers on the net would be inappropriate, but let's just say that the price the car made at private sale without any real pushing was 200 times the 'banker' offer from the website. 200 times, no exaggeration!

They may or may not be any good for mainstream cars - I have no experience. Anything performance, left hand drive or as mine was, stolen recovered - forget it

I still wish I hadn't sold it mind you.....
Best regards,

Sam Lever.

It's not just WBAC that take the michael.

I just sold my 330d for a not inconsiderable £3,100 more than Vines of Guildford offered me in part-ex!

Moreover it sold within five days of going on Autotrader so I obviously got the pricing spot-on.
