No! I bought a Halfords battery some years ago and it was too tall to fit correctly. I know for certain that there is a Bosch battery that fits and they can be bought from Costco at a very keen price. You need to be a member to buy from Costco.
Although some BMW Z1 parts prices seem to be getting silly I think consumables like batteries are still ok. Use your BMW CC discount and buy from your local dealer?

Got my Bosh battery from Ebay 5 years ago and still going strong! I connect it to a battery conditioner while in the car every winter though.

Something like this:

Bosch S3008, L278 x W175 x H190, 70Ah CCA 640.

Slightly bigger than standard, with more crank (70ah) for engines up to 3.0Ltr, a wider temperature threshold (640CCA), to cope with colder weather over a longer period such as last winter, which is why so many batteries keeled over, as mine did.
