Price of parts!!

Post by badboy »

Just bought a rear light, over £400. What is going on...prices have gone way past inflation rates!

Has anyone else found parts getting really pricey?

I have just bought the drivers plastic wheel arch £33 which i thought was pretty damn good. Couldnt believe the size of it, it certainly looks a lot bigger off the car than on it. Purchased number plate holder for £16 so was happy with that also.

on a car of this age and value i would try bmw breakers, ebay and part finder for something like a rear light.im sure it would not be too hard to source.although the cars are worth £3000 - £6000 approx the parts from a dealer are based on what the car was worth when new and with inflation added ie a £25000+ car 10+ years ago.i imagine it would not take much of a bump for an insurance company to write off cars like the z3 if a back light is £400!

Yes trhere are al lot of parts...
The rubberwashers between the screw head and the lower sidepanel... from 0.11 € up to 2,43 € !!!

In 03/2009 we (the "Z1-Nordlichter") bought 10 sets of the very important catches (left and right) for the doors (the part with the microswitch), for approx. 170.- € per piece.
Since summer of 2009 the catch for the drivers side is not avalible anymore and in the price list of 07/2011 it's marked with a "E" (what means: deleted). The part for the right side costs 502.18 € at the moment. Image Image Image

The cover for the gear shifter in darkgrey was made new in very bad lether quality and costs costs 666.40 € at the moment. Btw. the light grey one from the original sare part serie costs 230.27 € :head:

And so on, and so on....

It seemed, that the new BMW-Classic will take as much money as possible for the parts in the future. So if you want to sell your car in a few years, sell in spare parts and you will get much more money, then for selling it complete as a car.

Best regards
Michael

Has anyone looked at prices from the US? They still hold a fair selection of E30 (and so I would assume Z1 bits) odds and sods that are NLA and the prices inc postage were cheaper on some parts than my local stealer. One plus from a dealer is that bmw's that are classed as classic enjoy a lower hourly rate than the newer models. 40-50 P/H

USA Z1 Parts

Post by Rick Meinig »

Having had a Z1 here in the US since 2003, I can tell you there are no Z1 specfic parts warehoused in the US! We have competitive pricing on the E30 parts that are common to both however....

Yes, we are able to order any part for which there is still a valid part number and is still available in EU. General rule of thumb is that the US price will be approximately the same in USD (without tax) as UK price in GBP (with VAT).

I just received a right rear tail (without rear fog light) for ~$275, and a set of front turn signals for ~$80/each. :D

Hey, I think I will order parts from USA in the future! ;)

275 US$ are round about 190,- Euro... The listet price of a tail light (with fog light) was 398,- Euor in 07/2011.
btw. in 2006, when I made the "limited white edition" we payed 230,- Euro for one tail light.

Tail light WITH fog was ~$450...I must have gotten a special deal on the version without fog due to the fact that no one in the EU can install it and still get TuV or equivalent approval

So we have "BMW Classic" upping all the "Mobile Tradition" parts prices but it goes further than that. I think there is some BMW UK price rip off at work as well.
Just bought a new coolant expansion tank for my R53 Mini CS. UK BMW dealer price £41.71 ex vat. USA Real OEM price $34.35 ex tax.
Somebody is taking the mickey, and incidentally, the part bears a sticker saying Made in theUK!

Hi Pat,

Don't believe the prices on realoem - go to somewhere like www.getbmwparts.com to get the US RRP. Looks like that tank has an RRP of $68.86 so 41+VAT isn't so bad. Try Cotwolds BMW in Hereford for a discount (usually about 10%, sometime more) plus free shipping. You can check UK RRP at www.cooper-bmw-parts.co.uk.

regards,

Felix
