Le Mans Classic -

Post by TJS »

I am thinking of heading down to Le Mans for the bi-annual classic event between 5 and 9th of July.

several options.

Just jump in a car and go, tag along in the Griffith with the super organised TVR Car Club, or potentially a mini Z1 meet, if administratively possible, in terms of booking facilities etc.

For classic cars to enter the paddock area (free parking) they need to be pre 1966 unless they are listed as one of the "Lucky Few" where exceptions the 1966 rule are made. The Z1 is listed as having lucky "Few Status" along with the M1, 1602 to 2002, 3.0 (CS, CSI, CSL) and M635. Not sure if there is already a BMW Car Club presence and if spaces are limited.

Any interest ?

Hi Tony,

Why not suggest it as `The` 2012 meet? Never been to Le Mans, how does it all pan out, everyone meets there or a tour with Le Man as the destination, or.....?
Its going to be a busy year, with the Zedfest 2 weeks later and the Olympics a week after that, better plan this early.

Tony,

The Le Mans Classic is definitely a 'must see' event as far as I am concerned and I have been to all but the first one. I shall be there this year too, but not in the Z1 (probably the 3.0 CSL, but possibly there with my 'new best friend' an old 911). Either way it is a fantastic event and a great place to have a get-together. You could come out to see us at our little woodland hideaway that backs onto the track. Safe parking, usually a barbecue on the go and a great place to see the cars going by at almost top speed.

I shall be with a group of up to 10 depending on eventual committed suspects, but I am the only one of the group who really gets 'classic' cars (635d, E46 M3 and a new Jag are amongst likely cars they will be travelling in).

I haven't yet got my ticket but will be very soon!

I shall also be in the same place in June for the 24 hours, probably in the Z1 that time.

As I say, LM Classic, like the 24 hours, is a bit of a 'Bucket List' event. I don;t plan on croaking just yet but shall keep going just in case :D
Best regards,

Sam Lever.

Tony,

Count me in, plus Terry (but he doesnt know it yet). This event alongside the Zedfest 500 has been included in this months Straight Six Z1 News, so expect some interest, had a number of new Club members email and ask to be included in this years tour. If you can publish the basic plan, I will point everyone in this direction when they ask.

Guys,

Apologies for not reverting sooner.

It would seem I was on the verge of being double booked as I have been allocated to escort duties on behalf of my daughter and her friends to something called the Wireless Festival in London. I didnt know they were into old radios.

I am on thin ice with regards to trying to wiggle out given I have booked a one week DAS course with BMW Motorrad, which was not well received by Mrs S.

However, The Silverstone event in the Z1 seems a real possibility. Build a 2 day tour around this event / area with accomodation ?

Sams fuel costs would be very low !

If anybody does make it, there is a good chance I will be racing there. Sadly not in a Z1, but in an Alpine 210. Will post details if the drive comes off.
