Good day gentelmen,

I just bought BMW Z1 1989 gray color.I need to paint the car and i am looking for different color.Any recommendation of color that fit this car?

Second, i read that body shell can be remove all and it is made of plastic.Which is good for the painter

:)

.But i know there are clips or body panels holders made of rubber.Any one knows where to buy full kit? or to find them?

Thank you for welcoming me in this forum.

Yes i am located in Saudi Arabia.I like unique cars and i was looking for this Z1 from long time.I did not saw these cars in Saudi.I saw this one with a guy and idle for long time in his garage.Will the car need a lot of work.It runs but need engine tuning.And i said need paint.Plus i did not like the small wheels so i may change them to BBS.I need your help guys from technical issues to spare parts.

I will take pictures today.The interior color is black but the seats have some orange over red colors.Anyway, you will see the pictures.

Shaik,

Have the panels just been incorrectly fitted? There is a discussion on here somewhere about panel fitting, I seem to remember they must be done in a particular order, and you can still buy the panel clips from BMW.

Interesting colour, is it a standard Z1 apart from the Recaros?

As Jet says the panel gaps at the front nose cone don't look correct and need some adjustment, does the car have air con? I may be wrong but I believe some in Saudi Arabia did get this (special order) if I'm wrong I'm sure others will be on to correct me.

Interesting project for you have you decided on what colour to spray the car yet?

Ofcourse i wont go with green and i do not like the gray color.

I might go with different colors from Z1 colors list.The car is small in size and looking for color to make it bigger and lovely.Not yet decided.Of course i will remove all body panels and paint them when i install them back for sure will do panel adjustments.

I like that colour.

The standard colours are:

Primeval Green (a dark metallic shade);
Dream Black (metallic, looks very dark blue/green in sunlight);
Top red (non-metallic);
Fun yellow (non-metallic custard colour);
Pure Blue (a bright metallic blue not dissimilar to Estoril Blue); and
Magic Violet (a rather bright metallic pink/purple colour).

If I was respraying, I'd be tempted to go for Interlagos Blue.

I agree with you totally.The blue color below is so nice and frech.Shiny and young color for lovely Z1.Now, we will look for the shiny chrome 18" wheels.

Now , how we can get the same wheels on the VW.Can someone lead us.

Are you sure? Some colours suit certain cars, same for wheels, I dont think they will suit the Z1, but if thats what you want.
You will need hub adapters from 5x100 to 4x100, the CB of both cars are the same at 57.1 I believe, but the offset is different, the Beetle is PCD 30 - 45 I think, against PCD25 for the Z1, you must compensate for that with spacers. The later Z1 can take wider wheels at the rear up to 10", Erwin has them on his later car.

What wheels are they? Size? Offset? There are companies who can make you a set of wheels to fit, if they are split rims, you may just need the face and they build around it.

Now your talking Shaik, I have them on my eBay watch list, that is a fantastic design, it has a delicious deep dish and the correct offset, you can get them staggered for the back with a polished lip. Not many better wheels than that, good choice.

These are BBS LM if you can get them, extremely rare, but search for ESM 004, there is a company making them in 17s.

Thats the ones, not sure you will get 18s though.

You sound like a man on a mission, but have you looked at all the options available in 4-stud? Before you decide, have a browse through the Z1 register top of this thread, and www. Z1Z1.de owner register, a host of cars to view with various wheels, give you some ideas.

Alternatively a hub conversion to 5-120, the options become limitless, much more recent BMW designs, original quality and wheels are cheaper, you can get 18s, splits, Hartge, AC Schnitzer, OZ Futura, Alpina, BBS LM.....

That cant be right, the bolt pattern of the Z1 overlaps the 5x120, normally requiring 2 adapter sets to compensate. It pushes the wheel out changing the offset. The title says 4x100 but the picture shows a 5hole to 5hole adapter, I think the ad is wrong, maybe a 5x100 to 5x120....?

Good day Jet,

Well we took the car to work shop for painting .We removed the body panels and what abig disaster miss

.The plastic fall aparts and we can not use again the panels again.

So now we need complete body panels.Well i saw this german guy who already made carbon fiber body panels like doors lower panels plus the hood and front fenders.I wish if he makes the whole body panels of carbon fiber and leave them on carbon fiber color.

Well carbon fiber body panel is an option.

I will take body plastic panels to plastic factory and see what happens.

Any ideas?

Shaik,

Unfortunately, sounds like its getting to that brittle stage, plastics are starting to show their age, repair seems to work with small cracks around the mounting points, but no idea about major repairs. When it gets this bad, new panels are probably the way to go. If you can, it has to be carbon fibre, its stronger, stiffer, lighter, copes very well with the heat and wont bend out of shape. Alternatively, your dealer should have new originals in stock.

Can you post some pictures of the problem?

I believe the idea was to supply panels that were no longer available or have inherent design faults, but they have wings, bonnets and door skins in their catalog. A complete set of carbon panels would cost a small fortune to produce I would imagine. http://www.z1-online.de - speak to Michael.
This reminds me of my Ducati days, i remember at the time, there are different grades of carbon fibre, thickness, flexibility, thread, finish, depending on what you were going to do with it.

Andy Hallas is the man to explain this, but I remember untreated carbon was easier and cheaper to produce. If you really want the carbon look, paint the car black and have it carbon wrapped, but will it suit the car?

Regarding the Z1 body panels.I ordered complete set of body panels for my car except the hood and the trunk cover.Well this will take the car for another ten years

.Then i have some time to collect all body panels made of carbon fiber.

Regarding the wheels, i bought the 18" BBS wheels and not yet put them on car.

Regarding the color i decided to go with valencia orange.

Good decision, you have a fantastically unique car in very short supply where you are based, so you may as well take the plunge, new panels will last a very long time. The BBS LM is a very nice wheel, be interesting to see your version when it is finished.

I'm normally only on the z3-part of this forum.
I couldn't miss the discussion on carbon parts.
I don't know the z1 too well.
What is it you are looking for?

Fiberglass could be a durable and less pricy option instead of carbon?
But you would still need a piece to start from and make a mould from that (maybe the cracked parts could still be used for that -depending on the damage)

Next best thing is Nouvalari, they have supplied a few of us, so can vouch for them. They make a full system (or just back box) without the CAT (or with) and will match the existing pipework.

If you have issues with the rest of the system, go back to them for the SS mid-section with no CAT, and get some 325IX 6branch headers to complete the set, its worth it.

The autotreff ad is from 2005 so it's probably sold by now.

The dhd24 ad is almost 3 years old - did they give any indication that they still have the part?

The ebay ad says collection only - I can understand that since finding packaging for something as large and fragile as a bumper is not easy.
