'Quiet' exhaust upgrades

Post by stylus_uk »

Does anyone know of an aftermarket exhaust that does not sound over the top and loud ?

My exhaust needs replacing and I want to improve on the look at the rear of my z3 1.9 97' but definetly dont want anything loud !

Can any one help ?

Nope...!!!

But seriously, you're probably better off replacing it with OEM pipes and just adding some custom tips in matt black or chrome.

Over here, I got my exhaust upgraded. Magnaflow.

My mechanic that did the work awesome work. Quiet at idle and throaty at full bore. It's almost silent at warmed up idle. Louder at idle when it's cold.

I'm really impressed and satisfied.

I had a Magnaflow on my old 1.9 and while I loved it, I wouldn't really say it was quiet!!!! Which model did you fit?

I always say that someone's "not very loud" exhaust is another person's "instant headache".

Jetex are usually very quiet for aftermarket systems, not sure if they do one for the z3 though.

Other than that, I would get a new standard exhaust and change the tailpipe(s) to whatever you want (this is what I did with my old 2.8 Z3 below)

I like that tailpipe, very nice! I think I'll be doing this before long - thats if it longs last enough for me to save for an M-Roadster
No longer a Zed owner.... been there, done it, disliked it. (sorry)

How would you go about purchasing the OEM and changing the tailpipe ?

I cut my old pipes off leaving a couple of inches sticking out o the backbox then welded the new stainless pipes on.

I got the tail pipes from a place online.

Sorry I've been out... It's been hell over here at work for the last couple of weeks.

I fitted mine to a 2.3.... You know that may be true, I've never actually stood behind the car and had someone step on the gas, I've just heard it at idle, it might be loud. But, to me it's not loud in the car, and that's what mattered most to me.
