Ive Been Deprived Of An "i"

Post by Straight_Six »

hiya ppl,

after viewing the "debadge or not to debadge" thread, i realised that the 2.2 has an "i" for injection after it, so it reads 2.2i

my 2.0 dosent have an "i" at the end. can anybody explain?! i want an "i" :(

lol. Lee

im not a fan of customising badges alex,

i was just wondering if it meant anything not having an 'i'?

the car must be injected!

I think the 2.2 models with the i on the end were limited editions.
I might be wrong, not sure why they did it either.

I thought the i designated "inline", as in an inline-six or straight-six engine. Am I wrong?

Correct - mine is Sapphire Black. I thought the "i" denoted the sport versions to be honest. Only 2.2 and 3.0 came in the sport varities. I didnt think mine was a special edition!

Don't worry Lee ,

I have been deprived of a 2.2 and an I.
Did these only come with the chrome pack and as an option on the sport model? I wonder?

My Topaz blue was listed by the non BMW Main dealer as a "Titanium limited edition" in the adds last year when I got it but took it with a huge pinch of salt. Nothing else in any paper work or log book, refers to anything other than a 2.2i sport. Not fussed either way just love the car.

Yep, mine is the special edition Sapphire Black too, hence an i! talking about badges making it go faster, mine seems to be doing better without its 2.2i identity! thinks its a 2.8 or 3.0 now that its shed its inferiority complex!

i think people are reading too much into the i.my 2.2 sport had 2.2i on it.it wasnt a ltd edition.probably just the badge that came to hand at the time it was made

BMW did the sport variants of the late 1.9 2.2 and 3.0 models in the last couple of years of production. These really were the prequel to the msport variants they now produce but where just called sport at the time. Like the current msports they were popular although costing a little more than the non sport equivalent so quite a few of the late cars are the sport variants ie they are more common than the limited run special edition older models eg the 2.0 cosmos blacks limited edition which had a unique interior leather.

Have you got a picture of the badge sando? I've not heard of BMW putting any 'special limited edition' badges on the z3 so you may have something aftermarket on your boot lid or a pretty rare example.

It will be aftermarket badge someone has stuck on and the spec sounds like a stanadard "sport" spec so presumably your car is a 2001/02 model.

The "individual" special models had subtle "individual" badges in the engine bay but nothing on the boot.

So far as I know there are no production numbers known by individual models apart from the ///M models.

That looks like an after market jobbie. Never seen one before!

Mine is 2.2i special/limited edition and is marked with "individual" inside the engine bay area if I recall correctly.

I accept its not original as you say but i went to body shop to see about removing it as its not just hot gun or hair dryer it looks like its held on with some sort of glue?now body shop said when he removes it,it may bring layer of paint of,which it would cost £70 £80 to make good and paint,i have to concider is it worth it, do i leave it on or pay to have it removed, will it put people of buying it or will it make no difference?i will like opinions please.to be honest i cant understand why anyone put stupid after market badges on a
car of this model, would it put you of??????

I've seen a lot worse and it is subtle compared to most.

If there is a chance of damaging the paintwork I would leave it on.

At least you know its not a "special edition" but it is a "sport" version which are desirable.

To be honest, its quite subtle. I would just leave it on if there's any chnace it may damage the paint.
