Ive had lowered springs on my Z from one month old made for looks mainly but the handling was greatly improved and when the strut brace was fitted even better . Im not sure about the rear brace as ive heard about ground clearance problems but im happy with the handling as it is at the moment . Next ? bit of extra go , ive built a cold air intake system with cone filter (slight improvement/nice sound) but im looking into supercharging . Roll on next summer!!!!! .

It has always been a problem to get the rear end's geometry setup right .. as it's all un-adjustable .. unless you go through all the hassle to install adjustable mounts .

Question for kliss

Post by Lorraine »

kliss,

You mentioned something about installing adjustable mounts for the butt strut, I was wondering how you do this.

My Z has the M-tech sport suspension and I have the butt strut installed, but it is barely high enough at the moment to clear most speed humps. I tried to fit the body brace but the clearance was so bad that it has been sitting in my garage ever since. We talked with the strong strut guys about this and took photos, but they were unable to come up with a solution since my suspension seems to be lower than stock. We tried numerous ways of attaching the butt strut and the body brace but could not find a combination that gave me enough clearance.

Will adjustable mounts allow me to fit the body brace :D or am I destined to sell it.....''
Cheers,

Hi Lorraine,

That specific part is somehow call "Rear Subframe Camber Adjuster" it's from Dinan but requires welding and taking off the rear subframe in order to get that fit. Otherwise, I think www.bavauto.com also have something like an adjustable bushing to put at the rear control arm and allow slight rear camber adjustment.

You can try that ..

All of it should not affect the Butt-Strutt

OK I could have started a new thread on this but thought I would go for the ultimate thread resurrection (beat this one if you can :D )

The dilema is always performance/handling v cosmetics but I think my 1 mod would be......

AC Schnitzer split rims

Blimey my Zed was only 4 when this thread started
But I agree a nice set of alloys will get noticed first.

Brakes are missing from the list though...
performance wise its the one mod that will get you round a track consistantly quicker. 8-)

I went for "suspension" - though mine is a "Sport Edition" with lowered susoension already.

how much does a strut brace improve handling?
